Gentoo
I have switched from Red Hat 9 to Gentoo Linux. I've gotten my sound and video setup right (I think), but when I run the game, it runs @ 0.4 FPS, then says "Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0"." Is there a walk-thru to fix this or a simple "emerge" command? BTW, I downloaded the script and installed it that way, would I be better to do a "emerge vendetta-test"?
What card do you have, and what drivers?
PS: Vendetta isn't in portage. ;)

[EDIT]Sorry, freaked out. That ISN'T supposed to be there, but at least they're requiring that you make an account before the ebuild will run. Devs, you ought to talk to the gentoo people about htis.[/EDIT]
Awww, leave it, it will attract users and make it more fun! BTW, I have a VooDoo3500 card using tdfx and went through this walkthru:

I know this isn't what you wanted to hear, but it's not worth the time to troubleshoot a Voodoo 3500. That is a nearly 5-year old card made by a company that no longer exists. It's time to upgrade.
I don't think that card supports OpenGL well enough to run Vendetta. :P
Voodoo3 is supported by Nvidia in gentoo because You need the voodoo3 option to USE variables before you compile the X.
From gentoo USE documentation (http://www.gentoo.org/dyn/use-index.xml):
voodoo3 Adds support for 3Dfx's Voodoo3 video chipset, else defaults to Voodoo4/5 support if not in USE.
Use this and recompile Glide ( and I don't know but I thin you need recompile the xfree base)

To the two of you who said bad things about VooDoo. I can't afford a better card and also, yes...it *IS* good enough to run Vendetta. I was running Vendetta in Red Hat 9 and 7.3 just fine. I went to Gentoo, and it will take a little more configuration. Also, could someone take a quick look through the walkthru @ the URL I listed below and make sure it will do the trick. http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/dri-howto.xml

heh, funny you mentioned that, when I posted the first message, I didn't do that, before I read your post, I re-installed Gentoo and took my sweet time reading over the config files and use variables, I added the VooDoo3 use variable out of safety. :)

GAH! Everytime I hit "Reload", it reposts!
