recent switchover

Okay... i just moved from windows XP to ubuntu 10.04. There's a bunch of weird shit happening:

1. There are pentagons in space, confirmed in Sedinas B-8 and D-14. Big ones. someone in 100 said something about Warzones, and an ancient video card, but I've played on older cpus and in windows on this one, and no pentagons!

2. When remapping keys, trying to set F/A Toggle to Alt or Super results in a square which must be re-assigned upon each login (pfft). Again with the shapes!

3. Kinda 'drungry', I guess you could call it.

4. If I push both mouse buttons simultaneously, nothing happens. No shoot-y. If I press the left then right quickly, I get the usual 'chainfire' effect, but nothing if pressed at the same time. I'm pretty 'splode-y already and need all the shooting I can get.

5. I dunno if this is Linux related....so.....

1. You must be using the video driver that ships with Ubuntu, get a manufacturer one.

2. Never had any problems with this myself, but I have not used Ubuntu since like 8.04.

3. Huh?

4. You have 3 button mouse emulation turned on, so when you press mouse1 + mouse2, you get mouse3. Here's how to turn it off. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1013430

5. I would think it is.

What video card are you using: nvidia or ati?

Thanks guys, been away awhile.

empty: nvidia

ntli:

1. what do you suggest?

2.k

3.Chronic condition, it would seem.

4.Doesn't work in 10.04, no HAL? But at least I know where to start solving.

I may not bother quite yet as my subscription is up and I don't feel like bothering, but I'll get around to it.

Thanks again

For the video issue, you *may* want to try following the instructions here. I've been using this newer proprietary nvidia driver for a while and haven't had any problem with Vendetta, or any other program (no noticeable side effects). If you're using the built-in opensource driver in Ubuntu, this new driver will take precedence, but if it causes problems, you should be able to turn it off.

That being said, I'd still exercise caution. May not want to risk the update if this is your primary computer and everything else is working for you.
