Sound problems since VO version 1.8.115.1 with openSUSE 11.2 (x86_64)
First Cracking noises and after a while no sound at all.
When I quit the game my pc locks-up with a 100% cpu load.
Have to use kill -9 on a terminal to break free.
ALSA (and the rest) is uptodate according to Yast.

Can you try switching to the OSSSound audio driver in VO?
The most recent versions of ALSA seem to be having major problems.

No, but besides ALSA I have an option "Open Sound System".
I will try the "Open sound system" and let you known if it works better.

-.-
What, exactly, do you think OSS stands for?
Ubuntu user here. I just removed Pulse Audio using Synaptic Package Manager and since then there have been no issues with sound.
Using ALSA does not work, trying to quit then locks up the client.
Selecting OSS causes the client to lock up.
Starting the client without the launcher causes a segfault right after sound driver detection.
Fedora 12 x86-64 with PulseAudio.
I'm sure if I disabled PulseAudio it would work fine.
Alternatively now that sound does not work at all you could look into getting some proper PulseAudio support for VO?
Edit: It's not so much the lack of sound as having to kill the client that annoys me - it does not save the config file when I do that. If it is easy to add you you also add a <none> option for no sound? It will at least not have to be killed whilst you work things out.

Sound seems to have started working again for me using the ALSA driver, and the client quits successfully when closed.
