I run also Ubuntu 9.04. I had no problems after downloading the vendetta binary and running it.
make sure to check the permissions, can easily do that through the gui by right clicking - properties - permission, check run as executable.
What happens when you run it from a terminal? Do you get any error messages?
Did you download the correct version? You need the 32bit version even if you have a 64bit CPU if you are running Ubuntu 32bit (which you probably are if you are new to Linux), also you need to download the Linux version, not the Windows one.
If you are sure you are getting the correct version, and it has installed OK and you just do not know how to run it, you need to double click the vendetta file in ~/bin/ (/home/(your username)/bin) or try type ~/bin/vendetta in a terminal and see what happens (and report any errors you get back here!)

I set the permission to execute the file
and its working now

I really need to make an Ubuntu package/open-repository thing.
while you're at it, do a YUM package for fedora ;)
and perhaps apt-get for Debian...
then you'd have 99% of linux stuff covered

emerge and pacman packages too please ;)
DEB and RPM is all that is needed. It is the vast majority and Gentoo + Arch guys can create their own ebuild / pkgbuild respectively.
Also, as newbie users will certainly not install any such exotic distro, it is completely unnecessary.

An installer-package would solve the problem of dependencies.
...although I'd be quite impressed by anybody who didn't have the dependencies (glibc, gtk+, and glx) and still thought that they could play the game...
Bump. I installed the game as told on site. Then i could not open it and paly. then i saw forums and this post.
Uneccesary to say im a linux noob and if it haddent been for this psoting i would have trashed the game.
