PC beep when shooting an enemy, how to remove?

Feb 24, 2009 Lolin link
Hello,

I've recently installed the game and everything is working smoothly :-) but there is one annoying thing about my computer, namely when I shoot an enemy's spaceship my computer beeps every time together with the in-game sound. I'd really like to get rid of the beep and would really appreciate if anyone can help me "fix" it :-).

Thanks

I think I found it:

In Ubuntu:
Preferences > Sound > Sounds

Here I had to disable "play alert sound". It stopped beeping in Pidgin but I still have to test in-game.

Thanks anyways :)

Actually this didn't fix it, it did in Ubuntu but not in V.O.

Any suggestions?

As a quick fudge you could try removing the pcspkr module, if your linux and computer hardware normally uses that particular hardware driver?

To see if you've got it loaded:
lsmod | grep pcspkr

To temporarily remove it:
rmmod pcspkr

(or maybe)
sudo rmmod pcspkr

Then try running vendetta and see if the pc beeps from the mobo have gone. I've never notice the pc beep, just the soundcard produced beeps, and although I listen with headphones, the pc beep is annoyingly loud that I think I would have noticed if it was happening on my pc.

Thank you for you answer but I just noticed that the beep is actually the in-game sound when hitting an enemy's spaceship. Can this be change to an alternative sound because to be honest I find it quite annoying.
