the window crashes, and my terminal says
Fatal Error: Couldn't open window.
any suggestions?

it crashed. that message means that it tried to access some memory that it isn't allowed to.
How exactly did you install the game? With what command?

To uninstall delete the .vendetta directory and bin/vendetta in your home directory. Since you installed it as root you may to do that as root as well.
The game isn't supposed to be installed as root, maybe that's what's causing problems.
Even if you get it to run the minimum resolution is 800x600. With some luck it might work with a larger virtual desktop but that'd still kind of suck.
