this isn't a freakin disco!!

Jun 20, 2003 Independence link
on linux, when playing, i will sometimes get a night vision effect and then sometimes followed by a blue background. it's random and appears to go away by itself. it's like a freakin disco. links to screenshots at bottom. and i'm also having segmentation faults. the night vision and blue background effects also happen under Windows 2000 when using opengl. with directx, windows just bluescreens and laughs its ass off, mentioning the nvidia driver.

Linux distrobution: Redhat 9
video card: nvidia geforce 4 mx 440 64mb
video drivers for windows and linux up to date

and i'll mention that all my grief started ever since i put in this geforce 4 back in december 2002. additional info: i have a 250w power supply and the motherboard chipset is via kt-133.

WOW that rules!!

the night-vision looks like it's inverting the colors. rgb->bgr.

All I can say is try older nvidia drivers and see if that helps.

I suppose you don't have those problems in other games?
Jun 21, 2003 Independence link
vendetta is really the only game i play under linux. i sometimes play half-life using winex. don't have any problems with that. my system has always had stability issues. 3.2.7 only seems to have aggrivated it. anything i can do to increase stability. or, at the least, clear up the night vision/blue background problem?
Jun 21, 2003 Independence link
i lowered AGP from 4x to 2x. didnt experience any problems when i played today. i'll keep it like this throughout the day and see if it helped any.
Jun 21, 2003 Pyro link
Oh, sweet... Did you pick up a shroom widget? :P Take a look at http://www.freewebspace.net/ They have a search engine on there...
Jun 21, 2003 Independence link
i've played all day today with no problems. i guess lowering the AGP fixed it.
Jun 21, 2003 raybondo link
Ok, that's very interesting.
Jun 22, 2003 Pyro link
Driver problem, maybe?
Jun 22, 2003 Independence link
not sure. it does the exact same thing under windows 2000.
Jun 22, 2003 roguelazer link
Windows cooperates more with closed-source drivers. The linux drivers are more likely to be finikkey (sp?) with AGP bus problems.
Jun 22, 2003 Independence link
i got one segmentation fault today. but, for the most part, my problems are gone.
Jun 25, 2003 randomize link
I am also having some gfx glitches when first run Vendetta. It looks like textures for stars are not loaded, ie I can see bounding box sometimes with a planet on one of the sides and the rest is white background. After I warp to different sector once, it is gone. Would you like a screenshot?
Jun 25, 2003 raybondo link
Hm, sure.
Jun 25, 2003 randomize link
this is very strange, but I was unable to make a screenshot. I mean I press F12 and vendetta says it has written a screenshot dump0002.tga but when i open it in gfx program it's all black.
