Connection problems
I just installed ubuntu and I am playing the game for the first time. The instillation seems to have gone well, and I can open the game and sign in, but then it tries to connect and after a few minutes it says my connection timed out.
Besides the possibility of ubuntu being the problem, I only know two others.
I have a dynamic IP address instead of a static one, and I am part of a college network. Would this be a problem?
Also, in the update utility when I press Help, it says "$BROWSER is not set correctly -- couldn't open browser". Is this part of my problem?

From http://www.vendetta-online.com/h/faq_tech.html :
"The Vendetta Updater, the auto-update program that executes prior to game startup, makes an outbound connection to TCP port 21024. Once updating has completed and the game itself is fired up, a connection is established upon login attempt to UDP port 21141. Thus, any modern firewall capable of "keeping state" on outbound TCP/UDP should require no alterations. Other firewalls and packet filter implementations may require specific configuration changes. Both the updater and game work fine through Network Address Translation."
You should check with your college's networking/IT staff and see if traffic through certain ports is restricted, but it also may depend on where you are in the world. There have been a lot of issues with players living in Italy recently to the point that they can't even log in.

I'm in New England, USA, and the IT dept at my college has been closing down ports recently due to a lot of tor downloads slowing their firewall, and they are rather a-holes when it comes to asking them to open a port. Guess I'll have to wait till I graduate. Thanks anyway!
