joystick problems
This has been going on since i bought the stick, i guess i just didn't get around to caring enough to post it :D
I have a slight drift, and no setting of deadzones, or ingame callibration will fix it.
if i increase the deadzone, it just means i have to move the stick farther from the center to counter the drift.
OS X 10.3.4
CH fighter stick
so yeah, if anyone has any ideas... or developers need any more info... post away.
cheers

When you press Calibrate, it records the position of the joystick as 'center'. If left alone, the joystick shouldn't drift. That technique really only works if the joystick autocenters. Then after you press the calibrate button you should move the joystick back and forth all the way to finish the calibration process.
If this doesn't work, you will have to edit the Vendetta config.ini file located in the Vendetta bundle.

okay, the calibration doesn't work for me then, because i hit calibrate when i'm not touching the stick.
could you give me a brief explanation of what all the variables for the joystick do in the config.ini file?
also, how come it drifts if it's acknowledging that the sitck is within the deadzone?

I have similar problem with M/S sidewinder, ship always drifts to the left no mattter how hard i try.

I had the chance to test with another game controller, and it drifts too.
only in vendetta, nothing else.
can anyone chime in here saying they have a joystick that doesn't drift in OS X?

I have a Cyborg 3D
OS 10.3.4
When I first played Vendetta (1 1/2 or 2 years ago) the drift was extreme. About a month ago I tried the joystick again and the performance was much improved but I still had a slight drift. The drift was consistently in one direction, so I felt that the problem may have been related to the stick itself. I could not figure out how to increase the dead zone, that might have solved things for me.
Devs:
On the Inside Mac Games forum people are raving about the joystick calibration in "Enemy Engaged". Perhaps after the the money starts rolling in you could look into licensing that code from Zonic? Just a thought.

Interesting. I'll download the demo and check it out.
Ahh. it's interesting that it is a separate app. Maybe I could just use the calibration file that it outputs but not distribute the app itself.
However It basically does the same stuff I've been meaning to put into Vendetta for about 3 years but never had time.
Way back in Colin McRae Rally 1 had basically the same thing too and that's what I had my inspiration from.

Did that calibrater app allow you to counteract the drift?
What exactly did you have to change to do so? Move the deadzones? Move the center? Move the min/max saturation zones?

I can't tell if I'm drifting or not in Enemy Engaged.
But during the calibration process I did need to move the center for one of the axis.
Do your joysticks work with the mac at the office normally?

I too, have a Cyborg 3D Gold that I gave up on when drift was a problem. I also have a number of stick drivers. I'll dive back into the joystick calibration problem again and give my report.
The joystick works fine here.
I'm working on a new calibration configurator for Vendetta.

Ray!!! I love you man!

YAY!!!
Looking good Ray but my controls seem sluggish...like the stick is a lot slower at key-repeat rate than the keyboard is.
lol.. i was friggin amazed! my m$ force feedback 2 works exactly as expected in the game within my OSX jaguar.. wonderful. and that new utility definitely made it easier to calibrate.
Relayer, I don't think joystick buttons do key-repeat at all. Haven't tested it tho and it's been a while since I wrote it.
NetSyphon, I'm glad to hear it.

No, Ray...not the buttons. The stick movements (turn, up/down, slide) are very slow. I'll keep fiddling with it.
(sorry for that reference...from my Descent days where we had to make the stick emulate key strokes)

I have a Cyborg 3D Gold, I have found that calibration can be done perfectly in VO (as opposed to that of X-Plane ;) ), and that the last two axes of tilting have to be set as inverted. Remeber that you have to also move the two white triangles to match your joystick's movement range (push it all the way left, move the left triangle of the roll bar to the cursor, then do the same for all other triangles). That way you "map" it all exactly.
Chao: agreed. I've since fiddled with the adjustments and the Cyborg works great now. Thanks, Ray!
