Does the system.log or console.log contain any useful hints? Anything in the error.log? The error.log can be found when you ctrl-click (or right-click) on the Vendetta.app and select "Show Package Content".
Tohiwa
Edit: To view system.log and console.log start Console.app. The logs should be selectable on the left side. I do not remember if 10.4 Console.app already had this feature, I simply hope so.

Make sure that you copied the app out of the dmg and onto your hard drive...
I found if I right-clicked, opened package contents, and opened it straight from "Vendetta Client", it opened fine.
Crashed instantly if I opened it any other way.
Using OS X 10.5.7

Scratch that. Opened but wouldn't connect to the network.
A few steps to make sure where the problem is:
1. Be sure to copy vendetta app to your applications folder and start it from there.
2. If you have a firewall active, disable it to check if connection will establish.
(I was using Little Snitch as a firewall and it prevented me from connecting.)
3. If you want to keep using firewall and playing vendetta at the same time, you will need to define UDP and TCP open ports necessary for vendetta client to communicate with the server.
I found this useful info in VO faq:
Will Vendetta Online work through my firewall and Network Address Translation?
The Vendetta Updater, the auto-update program that executes prior to game startup, makes an outbound connection to TCP port 21024. Once updating has completed and the game itself is fired up, a connection is established upon login attempt to UDP port 21141. Thus, any modern firewall capable of "keeping state" on outbound TCP/UDP should require no alterations. Other firewalls and packet filter implementations may require specific configuration changes. Both the updater and game work fine through Network Address Translation.

My iBook G4 (Mac OS C 10.5.7 Leopard) said that the file is damaged and could harm my system.
When you download applications with a Safari 4.0x (OSX 10.5.7) and try to open it, you usually get a warning that you are trying to open an application downloaded from internet.
If you downloaded Vendetta Online from a reliable source (VO download page), you have nothing to worry about.

i had this issue and i just dragged it into my applications and it worked great :]
sooo ty ( roguelazer)
I've got the same problem as well. I copied VO to the apps folder too. As soon as the updater tries to negotiate to the latest version of VO, she crashes. I'm running OS 10.6
Fixed it! Just read some more and found that putting VO into *my* (not admin's) app folder remedied the problem. Sorry and cheers.
