Well, i am not sure which one is more annoying, my hardrive failing or vendetta failing.
Hmmm...
Well, i hope ati or apple fixes it sometime soon.

Heh, I run folding too, but it makes Vendetta run a bunch slower and less smooth, so I kill it when I play Vendetta.
I guess I'll be sending a bug report to Apple and ATI.

Unfortunately, ATI is well known for not fixing bugs in "obsolete" hardware (obsolete == more than one month old). They will say vendetta does something strange that triggers the bug and that should be fixed (which is kind of true because no other application triggers it).
If this is not fixed in vendetta, it will never be fixed.

Who is the CEO of ATI, i have a sledge hammer waiting for him.

Heh, well if I knew what vendetta does to trigger the bug, then at least I could try to work around it.
maybe I have to add a 'compatibility' mode that disabled all the extensions.
Try setting do_compiled_vertex_array to 0 in the config.ini file?
or set doshaders to 0?
The OSX version doesn't currently use vertex buffers so dovertexbuffers shouldn't affect anything.

Yes, doshaders and do_compiled_vertex_array are both 0 in config.ini as it was suggested somewhere. A mode without OpenGL-extentions
would be worth a try. Right now I can barely play. Time between crashes is 5 minutes, rebooting takes sometimes longer :-(.

It hapenned to me in sector 8 and 9 today. I was in a cent both times. In 9 I was watching Yooyooma to make sure he didn't attack me and was turboing towards the 7 gate. About 2 seconds after the activate key dialogue came up, the game locked up. In 8 I was searching for the fabled sector 8 station, I came out from within the giant roid and bam, in the middle of an elegant barrel roll it freezes. I noticed it usually happens while I am turboing to shift direction from one vector to another.
Once in 13 I was just sitting under the station dock and as soon as a vulture came out the game froze. It's getting ridiculous. I have no other apps going and am running a 700mhz iBook with an ATI card.

I think it happens when it is trying to show a lot of objects over laying eachother, for me it happens in s7, looking at the station, and well, this is what i am seeing
Station (anything below is behind station)
Large rocket fragment, 6 ish of these
Holding pylons, i'd say 10 of these
flashing lights on pylons
the rails in the tunnel, 2 of these
lights on the rails in the tunnel, 8 of these.
And of course, mr skybox.

I tried ...
do_env_combine=0
do_extensions=0
but it doesn't help. It took 15s to crash Vendetta wobbling the mouse around right after undocking from S7.

Hmm, well, that's really weird. I don't know what I can say to try to help. Try to avoid sector 7? I dunno.
Can you ssh into your mac from another machine when it is 'froze'? If so, try killing Vendetta.
I forgot, did you turn off illumination maps, background detail set to off, effects set to off, etc...?

Yes, I have rock bottom video settings, everything off, 800x600. As I mentioned, the kernel locks up, ssh is not working.
With OpenGL extensions disabled I have less crashes now. But anyway, avoiding S7 doesn't help. It's not only S7, I also had already crashes in S9 and S4 with .12
My fix to this is hope my ibook costs to much to get repaired and i get a 12" powerbook and hope that doesn't use the same card.
Mmmm, os failing.
Mmmm, hard drive failing.
Mmmm, hinge failing.

I tried to check out the crashes in 7 on my iBook last night. If it helps any, the 2B72 Panther build didn't have any problems, however, *after* exiting the program, I was given a crash report.
I think I identified the source of the crash: when I completely disable the skybox my PowerBook seems to not freeze any more. However, its really hard to play this way (no orientation). Raybondo, what is different about the skybox in sector 7 that makes it crash vs the other sectors where crashes are much rarer?
I just had a crash even with background disabled :-(
Sorry, I still don't know whether the problem is in Vendetta or in the osx video drivers.
I too have this problem, and am convinced that my crashes are specific to the model used for the 7/13/17 station.
It normally happens. like andreas said, when I am facing the dock and suddenly jerk the mouse to turn. The sound loops. system goes down and becomes unresponsive. I thought that I'd wait the crash out once, and found that it takes a good 2 minutes for the up and down sound buttons to register. They'll work 3 times before the system completely ignores the keyboard. I'll test this later, but I am getting a G5 in two weeks, and hope that it will fix the problem. My specs in my profile are correct. In addition to that, I have these items hooked up:
Zip 100 USB
Apple USB keyboard
Kensington Wireless optical mouse
Microtek scanner
SmarkDisk media card reader
Que! Fire drive
I have a generic Radeon 32 MB DDR AGP 2x card (right before they started numbering with the 7000, 7500, etc). The standard was a 16 MB Rage that I swapped out.

Would it be at all helpful if some of the people who aren't experiencing the problem to profile their equipment to possibly narrow down the issue? I have 3 different Macs running X that I run Vendetta on, and I have not experienced the problem.
G3, 300
G4, 400
PB G5, 550
Let me know if it would help before I go to the trouble of listing all my crap for each......

Yeah, it might help if you list your equipment.
