MacBook Santa Rosa works great with VO
I got a MacBook 2GHz, 4GB RAM with the new X3100 integrated graphics and I report that VO runs very nice. I have all the settings to Max and I get 20 -120fps with an average of 60fps when flying and playing, in most cases. I also have all resources pre-loaded and still leaves me with 1GB Ram unused. LOD and DLOD are set to 20.
The only thing that I can not do is turn on glow effect, that kills it off to 12fps and it becomes unplayable. I prefer it off anyway, but just to report and try it out.
I tried EVE the last couple of nights and the client isnt compatible yet with the Santa Rosa chipset macbooks, but it plays it well on medium settings until it crashes. Under XP and Bootcamp it runs perfect.
Also tested C&C3, that is more of a tough one, specially with many units. It will only run playable when all settings are low and a couple set to medium. But it works and the graphics still look very nice.
Does anyone know any other games I could test this MacBook with? I am not really into much gaming, if I was I would have bought a MBP, but it was interesting to see what this X3100 integrated chipset can do. I must also say it is VERY fast with photoshop and 2D graphics. My PS boots in under 3 seconds, brilliant. That is what I really got it for, to do work on the go. I can recommend it.
