it starts up the utillity updater then after 1 sec it just unexpectidly quits

What version of OSX do you have? I would recommend redownloading Vendetta.

Should be rock solid on that . Is it something to do with firewall or some anti virus software blocking access?

Copy the application to your hard drive. It won't update when launched from the disc image.

And in doubt run permissions check. Sometimes apps launch and quit or dont launch with the wrong permissions.
