Straffing broken and other problems on Mac with Joystick?
I've been playing with a trackpad for a while now, and dug out an old joystick I had picked up for my PC a few years back--a "Cyberstick 2" that doesn't say it supports mac outright.
Anyway, I configured the hat in Vendetta, and while the rest worked fine (the only other problem was that when I was turboing, I couldn't put in any movement commands), but the strafef up button (which was reported as configured right) cause me to start moving down, and put me in physics mode--I just kept going. The only way to get out of it was to hit the strafe down button--but it left me in physics mode.
Strange behavior to me, especially if I wanted to pop up.

Try the other TWO threads that exist on mac-joystick support problems (one by me, and the other is either by Niut or Pyro I think). You're not gonna get any help. The answer the devs will likely give you is - it's a Mac OS problem.
Which may or may not be true, but that's irrelevant. The relevant part is - you're on your own. Considering all the things that DO work sweetly on the mac side of Vendetta, consider yourself lucky. :)
Try USB Overdrive.
I've decided the game is more easily controlled with a good mouse device and a keyboard anyway.

I was going to post to your thread, but it had degenerated to a bunch of "Ooos" and "Aaaas" about using two sticks at the same time, and a plug for third party software, which doesn't help provide a stable, sellable game experiance. If the devs have abandoned support for an OS X client, that's fine, shut down the board and concentrate on the profitable end of the business, but if they are still betaing that aspect of the game, then I thought I'd provide a note on my experiances in a maner that appeared relevant to the task.
Now now, the devs DO have a point. The Mac OS interface to the joysticks is... limited. But I see this as a problem with the makers of the joysticks, not Apple. They don't provide drivers for THEIR joysticks and rely on Apple to do it for them, which is a bunch of bunk.
The problem isn't with Guild supporting or not supporting the mac, or issues with the Mac OS itself, the problem is the joystick makers not supporting the consumers who own macs.
I did not plug a piece of third party software as much as I plugged something that makes something impossible POSSIBLE.
And though I paid for my copy of USBO, I believe the liscense number can be obtaind through illegitimate sources, if you so choose.
If you want your stick to work, you have two choices right now - contact the maker of your stick and request (and receive) a macosx-specific driver, or get USBO.
I can tell you right now which of those choices will actually get your stick working, and which one is a fantasy.

Well, honestly, I think it's a moot point. When's Vendetta releasing? At BEST next year if they get a publisher for a MMORPG, and after the Sims tanked, I doubt it'll be that soon. By then OS X Panther will be out, and probably incorporate better HUID support--looprumors.com claims "advanced mouse support" in their round up of new toys, and give Apple's new keyboard and mouse (shipping with last weeks eMac update) as no longer branded as "Pro", I think we can expect some serious "Pro" devices by the end of the year anyway with some good OS support.
In the mean time, I'll use my iBook's trackpad. It's efficent, doesn't take up space in my laptop case, and doesn't look odd at work. :)

I do try to make Vendetta work as well with joysticks on the mac as possible. It is hard though when different joysticks don't agree on what Z axis or the Throttle axis is.
If you're having problems with multiple joysticks on the mac, I need to look at that because it should all work. I've done 3 joysticks in windows so the mac version should have just worked.

(I moved this message to the other Mac joystick thread)
