Mac Vendetta Graphix settings
I've got an iMac G4 with a 32meg GForce2MX
What's the very very best setting to use to run vendetta?
I get better framerates with high, rather than medium setting, but I have to set it to 20/20 or the picture stutters. I have the background turned all the way off.
Edited: 512 megs ram, only thing running is iTunes and safari, and the processor isn't pegged very often in game. I do play in a window, though. And yeah, I'm on dialup. Sucks to be me.

I have the same specs as you. I play at 32 bit 1024x768, with other graphic settings set to high or very high. The one thing that's important to leave low is the detail for far objects. Also, if you have a slow connection it may be the network that makes things choppy. Then there are the common sense things, like not running other programs, having a decent amount of RAM, etc.
I would say the big sucker of cpu usage is using texture settings that are too high for the card. Texture thrashing seems to be a big problem on the mac.
No, use 16 bit textures. It makes the game run a LOT smoother, with only a very small decrease in picture quality.

I am getting a GF2 MX400 64mb today in the mail so I'm going to play around with these settings, but see if they can work for you.

Holy shyt... How many FPS do you get, and what are the specs on your system?
(no gf2 yet)
I get around 40fps in S4. I can also have the BG on very high.

What the? I got about 20 fps on my iBook (32 meg Radeon 7500) with lower settings...
How do you get the frame rate to show up?
go to the console and type:
/toggleframerate
/toggleframerate
See, my problem is fights.
In station and warping I got 160/fps. In space I get 40-60 fps. Textures set to high on my mac actually provide better framerates than medium - this is contrary to the settings I used in 3.1.
In fights I get 16fps or less. It's gone down to like 7fps in big fights. It's a 32 meg card for cripes sakes.
And then there's all the jittery, almost incessant lag stuttering (not the lag BUG, mind you), but I'm well aware that's an entirely seperate issue, and I'm not bringing that into this thread.
An interesting note: I changed my settings from 20/20 (actually 17/17) to like 5(or was it 2?)/15, 16bpp, and my framerates are actually more consistent. 20-40 fps or so in heavy texture sectors.
For those of you well versed, my "new" usual settings. Any good tweaks would be appreciated.

I could have the textures on very high, but they look like crap on not-so-round roids, so I went with high and more round roids.
xochiluvr> turn you texturequality down to 16, that should fix your problem, since your bpp=16, it's kinda useless to have to texture so high. Sorry for not getting back sooner.

Oddly, turning the texture quality down makes it WORSE. It's weird - I get better framerates on high than I do medium, if I get the settings right.
Stupid me, I can't find the Config.ini file to edit. Can anyone give me a hint to where it should be?
right click or control click on the vendetta icon, select "Show package contents", it should be in there.
Thanks!
You guys should really post LOD settings if you want to have any basis for comparison... It DOES determine the # of polys, after all.
