wgaf.cfg/binds Automated Workflow

So, like everyone I'm assuming, my wgaf.cfg is a mess. Anytime I want to add in another group of hails, change my turbo binds, whatever, its a MASSIVE headache.

So I was think, why not ask Guild to create a better interface? Which was a stupid way of thinking given where it would fall on the priority list.

And then it dawned on me! We lucky folks have Automator!!

I'm gonna work on this when I get a moment, explore the possiblities and whatnot.... but I thought I would post my thoughts now, and if anyone else has the time and desire, they could take it up as well.

Structure:

Basically, you would have a folder for binds. In this folder would be a virgin wgaf.cfg file (with .txt instead of .cfg), and any number of folders which would organize all your different classifications of binds: one for hails, one for movement, one for...etc etc. In each folder would be text files for each individual bind (or groups, such as multiple hails)

Then, in theory, all you would need do is open up the specific text file you wanted to alter. Make the changes in this clean and simple document, save it, and hit AUTOMATE!

Which would do this: Open all text files and the virgin wgaf.cfg, and copy the new data into the virgin wgaf.cfg, then save it as wgaf_new.txt (or whatever, just an example). Then it would be a simple matter of changing the wgaf_new.txt to wgaf.cfg and chucking it into the VO Package.

So it might look something like this:

[BINDS]
...wgaf.txt
...[HAILS]
......alt1.txt
......alt2.txt
..... alt3.txt
...[COMBAT]
......weaponsgroups.txt
......strafe.txt
......autoaim.txt
......flightassist.txt
...[MINING]
...[ETC,ETC]
......etc,etc.txt
...wgaf_new.txt

Now, I know my train of thought is inevitably flawed here. I'm honestly not that familiar with Automator, having only really downloaded premade ones.

But I think it would work. You would probably need to edit the Automator every time you added a new subdirectory. But that, in my humble opinion, is peanuts compared to the hassle involved with editing the current wgaf.cfg.

Would this work?

Thoughts? Flames? Money?

hm not sure what you are saying here. I have used automator to do a auto mining script thing. truly awesome actually. I am in no way a scripter, but even so automator is just hit "record" do the action.. the stop and save and it writes the script as it records. pretty cool stuff.

it sounds like you're perposing some sort of bind make file. how to do that is beyond me, but the idea sounds prety cool.
