Widget! It's Widget!
If we can convince FiReMaGe to do the Javascript, I can make the graphics.
this would be really cool!!
Possibly add in a rss feed for the forums if possible?

Gah, now I really need to get a Mac...
Shouldn't this be in the Mac forum like all its ilk?
if you make a widget can you make it konflabulator compatable for us panther users?
also i beleve there is a version of Konflabulator for windows, so the poor backward windows users coul take advantage of it too.

This is sad. People can't even look one single thread down (what would be the very FIRST thread before they posted).
EDIT: Ah, I see, this was in a different forum. But still, you should at least look at the mac forum before posting, and the original poster should have known where to put this.
I will repeat it in this thread anyways: I don't think a widget is a teriffic idea. People just have the widget craze. A widget wouldn't be particularly suited to the buddy notification system in the first place, while a status item would be (is for that matter, for those of you who haven't been keeping up on news ;).
VOBuddy (the alternate, an icon that sits in your status bar) has these advantages:
1) Its already out
2) You can glance at it to see if a buddy is online or not
3) A complete list of buddies/other people is a click away
4) It has buddy notifications
5) It works on previous OSes (I *think* down to 10.2, but I only know for sure on 10.3 and .4 it works)
The thread is here (with source for a php indicator also): http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/5/10193
If you want me to add 6 hour notifications, i can. If you want an "RSS" feed from the forum, I can do that too (or if the admins don't want to go through the RSS trouble I can make it directly read the posts :)

jjoonathan, I know you've worked very hard on your program. But people just want a widget. It's just because they are easily accessable with the press of a button. Also, we're on a widget craze yes, and they also tend to look very pretty. Not that your program doesn't I haven't gotten to personally use it yet. In fact I think I'll go do that now and see if we really even need a widget.
Whats easier, pressing a button and shifting your eyes or just shifting your eyes?
Pressing a button.
Pressing a button. It works even if you're playing a game like Halo or Worms 3d.

Hmm. What did you do to get dashboard to work while in full screen (and somehow I don't think the makers of Halo and Worms were too lazy to put up a shielding layer)? For me, it doesn't...
And if its not full screen VOBuddy appears in the toolbar. I think the growl notifications it sends out pop above full screen windows, but I can't be sure (I know they pop above the "lazy" fullscreen ones, just not the shielded ones), because I haven't tried. So we are even there... Oh well, I guess it is personal preference. For me, reaching up into the upper right corner of me keyboard to hit dashboard takes a lot more time than simply giving the status bar a glance... not to mention you would have to glance around anyways for the widget...

We want a widget because they're pretty looking and we are mac users that love our macs and everything about them. Therefore we want a widget. Not that your program doesn't do the job, we just want a widget.
Widgets are useful because...
1: Not there when you don't need it.
2: There when you do.
3: Doesn't take up dock space.
4: Doesn't take up menu-bar space, VERY useful for people who use programs that use up large amounts of the menu-bar, like Xcode.
5: They look cool when you drag them onto the dashboard.

VOBuddy takes up almost nil screen space
2: There when you do.
Same with VOBuddy, except its there faster
3: Doesn't take up dock space.
Neither does VOBuddy
4: Doesn't take up menu-bar space, VERY useful for people who use programs that use up large amounts of the menu-bar, like Xcode.
VOBuddy sends out notifications, making it perfect for apps like XCode
Advantages of VOBuddy:
1: Notifications weather the dashboard is open or not
2: There at a glance, no need to push buttons
3: Already out
And if you want a widget, sure, but I just want to get my point across: It will be a waste of time. As long as its not my time, I am fine with it.
