What kind of video card do you have? Sounds like its having issues trying to load graphics.
Im currently using a GeForce 4 Ti 4200 all my drivers are updated and i have directx 8.1 or better.
That gear will certainly run the game.
Have you tried rolling your drivers back? Your new drivers could be the problem.
The server might have been down briefly, so you might simply try again later.
NOTHING happens? You're just left looking at your desktop, minus the updater?

Yes the updater closes and all i see is my desktop, Ive had this problem over the last couple of days and assumed that the server was down. Ill keep trying and reply again later if its still a problem and ill look into rolling back my drivers also.I should also point out that there appears to be no harddrive or modem activity when i push "play vendetta" not sure if that is at all related. Ps I use cable internet and have my modem out in plain sight. and again i use windows ME if that helps also
Ok I tried to roll back my display drivers and did it back a couple of versions and Im having no luck, problem is the same. So it doesnt appear to be driver issues. Any more help would be appreciated.
Go to the Vendetta folder where ever you installed it and you should see a bunch of files in there...copy vendetta.rlb into the same folder and rename the copy to vendetta2.exe and then double click vendetta2.exe what happens?
Is there anything in the errors.log file? Or directx8.log or waverror.log or openglerr.log?
StarFreeze when I do what you asked and double click on it I get an error, two pop ups actually
1. The DINPUT.DLL file is linked to missing export USER32.DLL;GetRawInputDeviceList.
2 C/Program Files\vendetta Online\vendetta2.exe
A device attached to the system is not functioning.

Raybondo sorry no idea what you are talking about, where do i find the logs. There was no errors before , the upgrade window would just close and thats all, no errors showed onscreen.
Raybondo I found the bug report option (in the vendetta folder) and sent a bug report so I belive that will include the information you requested.
do you have a joystick plugged in or anything like this...a gaming device?
nope no joystick or game pad
no non game related plug ins either (scanner, web cam etc.) not even a printer
I have run out of ideas. Win ME is something I havent troubleshooted for a long time. These errors your getting and something about a device not fuctioning means you know just that. So some device it sounds like is screwing with Vendetta.
Im not getting any errors in Sytem/ hardware screen. Could my soundcard be conflicting with the game. Ive got a soundblaster live
Can anyone else hazard a guess?
best guess is take out the sound card and give it a go, or take out and PCI cards that arent needed.
Thanks for the bug report. It shows all the files are blank though.
When you do what Starfreeze says (running vendetta directly, bypassing the updater) can you try it with the -n option?
That should disable any dinput things, but hmm, it may be after it tries to load the dinput.dll. Try it anyways, please.
Try running dxdiag and see if it passes all the tests.
Turn down 'hardware acceleration' for your sound card. I don't know if ME has that option though.

Ok I switched to windows xp on this system and the game is running fine. Since I havent changed anything I think someone should look into the Windows ME issue with this game but thanks for everyones help.
