1.0.9: Locks up on load
This has happened twice since the update to 1.0.9. I start up Vendetta and the game hangs just before the loading screen comes up. Did not happen before this update. I checked my XP event logs and they had no error events for this time period. Vendetta event log was overwritten when I tried logging back in. Sorry.

What else did you install on your computer at about the same time?
Only thing was an upgrade of the video driver to 61.76 a few days ago.
Hm. try reverting the video drivers back to the previous version and see if Vendetta runs.
This is an intermittent problem. It does run. Just that it has locked up my PC twice now since the update. It'll work fine and then for some inexplicable reason, it'll hang just before the splash screen. After doing a hard shutdown and reboot, things start working again, but since no one else is complaining, I'll try another driver and see what happens.
I just downloaded the trial tonight hoping to see if this game was for me and am experiencing this very same problem. I go about 10 to 20 minutes and crash completely to a black screen. No ctrl al del recovery to desktop, a complete cold boot is needed to get control of my machine again. I'm loving the first 10 mins I've seen but I need to figure out what the issue is. Here is the errors.log file dump from the vendetta directory.

Some sectors also contain wormholes to other solar systems, but you won't need to worry about that for a while.

[09/15/05 00:26:28] 00ff00 In order for your nav computer to be able to plot a jump from one sector to another, you must be at least 3000 meters away from large stationary objects such as asteroids or stations. An indicator on the bottom of your HUD shows how far you are from the nearest object. (Note that, while 3000m is fairly far, you don't have to worry about your distance from other players' ships.)

[09/15/05 00:35:34] 00ff00 Hostile pilots show up as red blips on your radar. This is a good way to monitor the overall threat level in your vicinity, however it's not too useful for tracking a specific pilot. You can press "x" to select the enemy closest to you, or "b" to select any object immediately in front of you (friend or foe).

[09/15/05 00:36:13] 00ff00 We've warped a drone, *Orun Collector XP-3923c into the sector, and it should be heading to your position. See if you can find it using the "x" and "b" keys. Don't worry, it may show up red on your radar, but THIS one is completely harmless. Your radar has only a 3000m range, so if you can't find it right away, come to a stop and the bot will fly to your position.

[09/15/05 00:37:10] 00ff00 Next step - destroy the drone. You can click with your left mouse button or use your joystick's trigger button to fire your ship's primary weapons. Your ship's computer projects a leadoff target onto your HUD - aiming at the leadoff target will help you hit your enemy more consistently, even if both of your ships are moving. Destroy the drone now, and we'll continue when you're done.

Running into cargo crates will load them into your ship's cargo hold, and you can later sell them to a station for credits. Keep in mind, however, that cargo adds mass to your ship, and carrying a full load will slow you down quite a bit.
Return to your home station in sector Dau L-10 and we'll conclude the tutorial.

Your problem is actually a bit different, as paedric was unable to even get past the splash screen. That's almost always a video issue.
