VO Update Utility getting stuck.......not able to load VO

Sep 11, 2008 Agrajag link
I have been playing VO for roughly the past couple of weeks with no issues at all, but today when I tried to play, I ran into a problem that I am at a loss to fix. I have also read throught different forum topics in this thread as well as the bugs thread to no avail as to the solution to my problem. I am having trouble with the VO Update Utility getting stuck at the following:

Checking update program...
Connecting to update1.vendetta-online.com:21024..

I checked the winsock notepad log in the Vendetta folder, and it records the following:

[09/11/08 12:41:06] .\event.cpp:(97): WSAEINVAL: The timeout value is not valid, or all three descriptor parameters were NULL.

I have tried uninstalling VO and reinstalling it, turning off my firewall and AVG antivirus, resetting my DSL modem, restarting my computer, disabling and renableing my network adapters, and combinations of all the above, but I still can't fix the problem. I am assuming that it is something to do with what I read in the winsock log notes above, but I do not know how to fix that problem. Until today, I have never had a problem with VO. Here are my system specs and info if that will help you help me figure out how to fix this. Thank you.

I'm running Ubuntu (Hardy) and also not connecting to the patcher...seems just that the server is down?

Aye wojtek.

That seems to have been the issue. The server was down. VO update Utility connected, updated, and verified just fine for me on my last login. Guess that is the first thing I should of considered before doing all I did. LOL, sometimes the simplest things are the cause.

Yeah, the primary update server was down and the updater would eventually time out and try the secondary updater server. However on the Linux version, searching for the secondary update server fails. The Windows and mac versions should have succeeded given either 10 or 30 seconds I think, I don't recall the exact timeouts as they are defined by the OS.

dunno either raybondo, but I did leave the client open for a minute and a half on one occasion after I had tried everything else and for 5 minutes on another. It never would kick over and try the secondary one apparently, but it is no big deal as the root cause of the problem was the primary update server being down. Once it came back online, the client worked, logged on to VO and played with no lag or problems.
