Vista troubles... :(

Aug 26, 2007 JestatisBess link
Some times when i start up vo i get all my setting and plug ins. Some times I don't. Some times i have to restart vo 10 times before my preferences and plug ins work.

I noticed that some of the VO prfernce files have been moved to C:\Windows\System32 directory. I reninstalled Windows Xp and then upgraded to vista a few days ago. could it be not working because i didn't install it on vista directly but on XP then upgraded?

Any help would be useful. Thanks in Advance,

TJ

As far as I know, an "upgrade" from XP to Vista is just Vista installing over XP after wiping XP off.

Haha, you "upgraded" to Vista... sucker.

That's like "upgrading" from Windows 98 to Windows ME.

You poor poor windows user.....except its odd cause my brother uses Vista and it works fine for him.

My recommendation:

My desktop gives me the option of using XP or Vista as the platform the computer boots to. For VO, try booting to XP if you have the choice, and leave Vista completely out of the equation.

I like Vista's potential, but I also like the potential of getting a swedish bikini team for my 21st birthday. Ain't gonna be realized.

VO installs a registry setting that defines where it is installed:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Guild\Vendetta\install

It shouldn't ever put anything into the Windows/System32 directory.

I think your Vista install is either confused or broken.
But, if reinstalling VO works, then go with that.

Now, I'm on XP(temporarily; it sux bawls*wants his mac back*), but what happens if I'm not given permission to write to there, raybondo? Any workarounds?

There are no easy work-arounds that I can think of.

one no-so-easy one would be to reinstall VO to a location that you do have access to. This would probably require having admin access to install VO and write the registry setting. However, this affects everyone using the computer.

I think VO will still run, but your settings will not be saved, nor will any log files.

Ok, this new update uses directsound mode for Vista in hopes of eliminating the horrible sound problem.
You can switch it back to wavsound in the config.ini file with:
[wavsound]
use_dsound=0

or force it to on for XP with use_dsound=1.

I have VISTA but the update did not automatically enable directsound. After manually adding the use_dsound=1 the sound works great. Could it be somewhere in the programming not detecting different versions of Vista correctly to make the change?

hmm. could be, but I thought I was doing it in the standard way.

So unfortunately i have to use vista now and im trying to fix the sound issue but it wont let me save any changes in the "config" file.

Also, i can't find a file that specifically says "config.ini" so i assume the "config" one is the right one.
