DX 10 and nVIDIA 8800 GTS

OK, does Vendetta work with your average PC with Vista (DX10) and the GeForce 8800GTS 320MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Video Card?

Because, a month from now, I might be playing with something like that.

It should work fine. If not, I'll have to fix it.

Ha. OK I'll let you know.

Why the f*ck would you get Vista? Vista and 8800GTS do not get along, in spite of it being the only card to support DX10.

See, that's the kind of response I needed.

Windows XP SP2 it is.

Haha, I just tell it like it is... Right now, Vista doesn't work with ANYTHING. If I were you, and for some absurd reason I really wanted vista in spite of it no really offering anything better than XP has... Start out with XP, and if/when Vista has been proven to be stable with all your components, you can think about upgrading.

Right now though, no, Vista is a bad idea... probably best to wait for the first or second SP on any MS OS anyway.

I hear Vista has a lot of trouble supporting some games too.

'some' games? Name a game that Vista doesn't have trouble supporting.

I would say all but I have very little experience with Windows XP and none with Vista. Instead of saying "all" and shooting myself in the foot, I took the more PC way :)

Now that I do have experience, yes Vista has trouble even working with VO. Or rather, VO with Vista.

Alright, I *may* run ubuntu first, just to check. I'm sure I'll eventually be running Win XPSP2, DX9, etc.

I'll report back with problems.

Does Ubuntu even have video drivers for GeForce 8800GTS? Might want to check that, first....

Awesome, now you just need to find a build new enough to incorporate it, or know how to get and install it yourself without video drivers.

I'm installing Win XP first, as recommended on many sites relating to dual-boot systems. I'll leave a 100 GB partition open for linux, and try that once I'm sure everything is functional in XP in the initial install.

Well, DX9 and the 8800GTS basically makes the game look kickass. I'm running on MAX settings, I can't make it any more hi-res than it is now, 5X AA and everything.

If I ever upgrade to Vista, I'll revisit this thread.

Save for the sound, VO works very well with Vista64 and my GeForce 8800 Ultra.
