seems to have worked, might let it expire as just got COD4, eve is ok, but can have too much of eve at times

It's usually a directx buffer issue, run dxdiag from Start>Run go to the sound tab and turn accelaration off.
I have vista and this is my second night playing. First loadup I got the "clicky audio." However, I restarted the client and it went away. Also after removing "preload all" in my settings, it never returned either.
Yay, Vista sound problem finally solved with update 1.8.36.
VO now uses the native audio system of Vista. All [wavaudio] settings are ignored in Vista if VO is able to use the core audio system. Otherwise it will fall back to wav or dsound. Check out the waverror.log if you want to know which version VO is using. There will be extended information when using native sound.
