Vendetta Intro
When Logging onto any MMORPG they usually have some kind of Intro video, Personally I think having one of these at the begining of Vendetta or just as you log in would add a great feel to the game.
Seeing as the Capital ships hav just been release, A scene in the Intro could be A battle between the three ships.
These kind of goose-bump intros are what usually give a person that "I wanna know more" feeling.
The current station in the login background is not cutting it, even with graphics up all the way and resolution to the max, the station seems to have lighting issues and is really choppy looking.
I realize the Dev Team has alot to do content wise, and this is apart of the content, for example, Guildwars a highly anticipated MMORPG just release their Intro and it is fantastic, so good I wanted to sign up.
Overall I think the Intro Movie is a low priority as of now but in the near future I think we can all agree that a short... 1 maybe 2 minute intro will add greatly to the look and feel of Vendetta-online.
Heres my Idea for a Vendetta Intro
Scene one, Itani Capital ship comes out of the Sebina b-8 wormhole and engages the two other ships
Scene two, We see the Captain of the Itani Ship Looking out at the Serco Capital ship and he locks eyes with the Commander.
Scence three, The Serco Ship turns away and attempts to make a full frontal attack On the Itani Capital Ship
Scence Four, The Uit Ship arrives and Blasts into the middle, then we see a balnk black scene, with some kind of voice telling us "the fools didnt know, they simply murdered each other day after day"
Then we see the Ships in Rubble with Explosions happening everywhere.
Then have some of the best looking ships in the game fly through the rubble fighting each other, then when they pull out have them fly right over the words
"Vendetta-Online"
Also we would need some kind of very war-like chorus type music to get the goosebumps to come out.
PS. Excuse my horrid typos

Sounds like a good idea, but I think that an intro video would not include the UIT as a battling party as they are not part of the war. I could see the Seven Minute Battle of Deneb as or part of an intro scene (first paragraph on this page: http://www.vendetta-online.com/h/storyline_section11.html ) as it emphasizes the Itani defensive position and the Serco offensive position.
Long as you can skip the intro by pressing something like 'enter', then it's good. One thing that annoys me about some games, is how they force you through the intro process every time you start a new game (or reinstall).
Ok, Can we just can the "UIT-are-really-no-part-of-this-game" talk.
Seeing as they make up the biggest faction. They would need to be a part of the intro video.

That's interesting... it looks fine on my computer.

Celkan, the problem with the Seven-Minute Battle in an intro would be that it really emphasizes the Itani being the nation that everyone should want to join.
There's so much history behind the battle, that a simple intro movie wouldn't even begin to explain the reasons behind the battle, and why it doesn't seem like the Serco are the bullies of the universe.
Seven Minute Battle introduction:
FADE IN:
Title:
EXT: GEIRA RUTILUS
40 gleaming Serco battleships with a massive flotilla of support vessels and fighters float at the fringes of the system.
INT: SERCO FLAGSHIP BRIDGE
The Serco admiral stands in the center of the bridge, looking out into deep space. A digital clock silently counts down to 0.
ADMIRAL
All vessels! Enter the wormhole!
EXT: GEIRA RUTILUS
All of the ships enter the wormhole in a giant flare of blue light. The light disappears, the ships are gone.
INT: GOLIATH CANNON CONTROL
A small group of controllers watch over the Goliath Cannons' systems, all is calm. One controller looks down at his sensor screen, bored. A small red dot appears. Confused, he taps the screen. More red dots appear, first two, then five, then ten, and the numbers keep growing! He mashes his hand on a red "Emergency" button. The lights in the control room darken and start flashing red as a klaxon sounds. All of the controllers drop what they're doing.
SENSOR OPERATOR:
Large Serco battle fleet exited the Geira Rutilus Wormhole! Estimate... 40 Visangir Class Battleships and 30 Destroyers and Light Cruisers!
COMMANDER:
Arm the Goliath Cannons and prioritize the firing sequence!
INT: SERCO FLAGSHIP BRIDGE
The Admiral stands, unmoving in the center of the bridge. He smiles, and points his finger at the center of the viewscreen.
ADMIRAL:
All ships, open fire!
INT: GOLIATH CANNON CONTROL
CONTROLLER:
Fire!
EXT: DENEB, GOLIATH CANNONS
One goliath cannon is built into a nearby planetoid, two others are built into planetoids farther off. The cannons start to charge up, blue electricity arcs between components.
EXT: DENEB, SERCO FLEET
All 40 Battleships open fire.
EXT: DENEB, GOLIATH CANNONS
All 3 cannons open fire. The blue anti-matter shells rip through space, dissipate the Serco fire, and tear a hole in the Serco formation. The cannons keep firing until all but 5 Serco ships are destroyed.
VFX: Interstellar Map
NARRATOR:
The battle of Deneb lasted only seven minutes and 31 seconds, and became known as the Seven Minute Battle. The Serco invasion was repulsed, and the Itani were able to breathe freely once again.
FADE OUT:
Or whatever. But my point is that in this case, the Serco look like they're the intergalactic bullies, beating up on the Itani. On top of that, they end up looking foolish that they got beaten so easily. The backstory doesn't help much either, because then war breaks out again (by the Serco - no matter who killed who in the duel, the Serco attacked first), is settled by the UIT, and then the Serco then break their own peace agreement.
Needless to say, the Serco don't come out looking very good (they really don't look very good at all in the backstory, but that's a whole different issue). All the new players would want to play the "victimized," "rightous," and "heroic" Itani, except for those few players who'd join Serco to play the bully.
An opening for an MMORPG should represent all nations neutrally, so it'd be up to the player to choose which of the equals sounds more interesting.
But I currently can't think of anything that sounds terribly neutral... Everything I write still ends up sounding Itani biased. It's really hard to make a militaritic nation of cyborgs sound like they're no less evil than a nation of pacifistic humanists. Hmm... how can we keep it from being "Humans" against "The Borg?" Cuz that's what it really is. Cyborgs are always depicted as being evil. hmm... This is really stream of consciousness here, cuz I can't think of anything else.
Well whatever...
An animated intro movie would be cool, but it needs to be done in such a way that no nation appears "heroic" and no nation appears "evil."

What about focusing on the Hive bots as the primary enemy?
"In the year 4423 AD...."
Cut to a scene of the red sun of helios shining on a giant asteroid belt trailing off into the distance.
"Earth is a distant memory"
Station in the foreground with rotating wheels and slowly flashing lights, earth-like planet and two suns in the background.
"Rogue hive AI runs rampant across the known universe..."
Cut to scene of glowing asteroid field in the middle of an ion storm, some asteroids rotate in the foreground, dozens of bots can be seen flying around in the background. A lone bot flies into the foreground and begins mining an asteroid.
"...preying on those that dare the spaceways"
Closeup of a trade ship in an empty sector, zoom out to show three assault bots boosting toward it.
"Three rival human factions survive in a delicate balance of power."
Three consecutive cuts of cool looking Itani, Serco, and UIT stations, each with the special ship flying across the foreground.
"The question is...."
Third person view of a centurion undocking and then boosting. As the centurion flies away from the station it becomes evident how truly massive the station is. The centurion warps into the distance and disappears.
"Whose side will you choose?"
Cuts of action sequences in rapid succession, showing PvP battles, the convoy all warping simultaneously, approaching the cap ship as it fires on the player, being pulled out of warp into an ion storm, the hive queen etc....
This culminates in the capital ship exploding, fading into a white screen, which immediately fades out again to the "Vendetta Online" logo.
Or something like that.

How about a factionless intro? Make it so you can't tell which side is which.
All you would see are various ships firing at each other... there's nothing that says you have to label certain ships as Itani or Serco.

Exactly.
I think it'd be cool if it was designed with BSG-esque camera work. I know a lot of people think it looks ugly, but the jittery camera and non-smooth zooms make the show feel more realistic to me. Perhaps the same thing could be accomplished with the intro movie?
It's not too hard to do that kind of camera work... It's just kinda hard to do it well. You walk a fine line between "handheld" and "Blair Witch Project."
What I said about the UIT was that they are not a battling party. Their capship doesn't really have a place in the intro if we have one.
And all I'm saying is that, considering the prevalence of UIT-based warriors, that idea of the UIT(Based on an already itani-centric history) may need to be modified.
I love the idea of doing a Hive based intro. It's non nation specific. It's something everyone can get involved in. I expect almost everyone has had a shot at a Hive Queen even if they ignore CTC, Guild wars and all that other stuff.
The UIT is in a constant war against the Pirates...
Wasn't somebody writing a serco back story? I can't remember who it was. Anybody know?
Oh ya, I think an intro movie would be cool. But it would need to be un-biased.

How about a small, unbiased general intro movie; and other nation-specific movies biased towards each nation, that would be played following the selection of a character's nation? It would be more work, but I think would be way cool. And the unbiased general intro movie could be created & put into the game first, without waiting to finish the others.
The Itani movie could be the Seven Minute Battle of Deneb like Celkan suggested. The Serco version could be either an account of Akan's treachery or the later surprise attack by the Order of Akan on SkyCommand. The UIT movie could show their rise to the stars & independance after being trampled on in the Itani/Serco war on Sol II.

Beolach, that's a great idea.
I'm writing a Serco backstory, but it's been moved to the back burner recently due to personal issues taking time away from writing. I'll probably get back to it soon, though.
