Missiles, Rockets, Mines... BOOM
So with the emergence of the Cap ship and player controlled turrets, I think its important to rehash the issue of destroying missiles and rockets with blaster fire.
A Guild Cap ship should be able to protect itself from these weps by virtue of excellent gunning ability. As should most players in light ships as well.
I mean, how cool would it be to see a prom release its rockets and blow them up just as they're fired, causing damage to the prom itself.

Perhaps that could make flechettes useful, if their hitting zone is widened.
I agree
you can already blow up lightning mines for sure with neut fire, did it the other day, would be cool to be able to do it with rockets and missles too. Unless I showed up just as they were timing out, but I really don't think that was what happened, as I sat there and shot at it repeatedly until I actually 'hit' it, and then did it three more times. They were Evoli's mines from around Sedina D-14 Station.
How do you know rockets don't blow up when you shoot them?
How many have you hit?
Really, the idea of anyone consistently hitting rockets is just plain stupid. If nothing else, the way the network code handles the direction a person is facing would make it all but impossible.
Here's an experiment: go out shooting aerna seekers in a govbus. Then remember that the biggest of the missiles are at least ten times smaller.
PS: I'd love to be able to target mines again. And being able to target rockets would probably make them a bit easier to dodge. :)

Genka: if flechettes had a proximity (like I suggested a while back), then it'd be significantly easier (though not super easy). And Shape's saying that being able to shoot out rockets would be intended for the Capital ship, although it would also have occasional use in fighter based combat.
It could also be effective against swarms. If you manage to get one, I think it would make sense that its explosion could take out other missiles in the swarm as well.
that would be cool to destroy missiles or rocket by shooting it
but think about that
two players spamming swarms chaos =p hehehehe
nice huh?

This is one area where lag would severely screw things up...

being able to destroy rockets and missles is great. May not be as useful in a duel or in dogfight between two individuals but in a group situation, there could potentially be someone with an angle on a fight where they could hit a rocket or take out an approaching swarm for a groupmate. And it would be great for the cap ship to be able to log onto those nasty homing missles that it's just too slow to out manuver.
Use: /LocalRadarNext to target these items. You can use this to actually hit and destroy mines with missiles or other weapons. You can target missiles, but apparently you can't destroy them - at least I was unable to destroy my own even when they were stationary.
Sometimes I forget just how long some things have been in-game.

Lets assume you can hit missiles with energy and that when they explode they destroy other missiles nearby and anything else.
So imagine this situation, youre on a levi hunt with 5 others all in spamrags, ready at 3000m from the levi, group leader gives the go-ahead. You've got a prosus assault on your back but youve gotta try and make the run. Everyone starts stacking their swarms/gems while youre dodging fire from the assault behind you and the levi directly in front, first shot the levi fires at you goes straight through your stack and into you(if you dont move) entire stack explodes and you die. (if you did move) and the levi miraculously missed you and your stack, the prosus assault thats continually firing at you from behind will surely hit one of the missiles in the giant stack before it gets to the levi destroying you and any chance your team has of ever popping the levi.
It would make bombing much more difficult than it already is.

OP: There's a plugin that allows you to aim 'objects' like mines.
I don't have it installed, that's because I am not sure if it is possible to aim missiles, you can check it.

although the necromancy involved in reopening this thread is.... deplorable.... this might make flechette cannons actually useful
Hhmm... back on ancient OP, the SHIELD turrets seems to produce exactly same desired result.
So that leads to creating two new SHIELD WEAPONS:
* Shield weapon - Small // Large
Damage: 0 // 0 (But deters incoming ordnance)
Velocity: 110 // 130 m/seg
Range: 200 // 300m (short life)
Energy: 10 // 15
Delay: 0.2 // 0.3
Grid: 2 // 4
Mass: 200 // 400 km
Port: Small // Large
Level: 2/2/-/-/- // 2/-/2/-/-
Autoaim: none

Rockets and missiles except for swarms and gemini can be shot down in flight by capital gauss. Something about the nature of being a multi launch missile makes the swarms and gems have no collision reaction to cap gauss.
