The "Almost Useable" Ship

Far and wide, the Orion Hornet seems to be known as the "Almost Useable" ship. Sure, greats like Shape and Eldrad could probably fend of 20+ attackers with one, but its not like the orion centurion or other ships where anyone can make it work with minimal practice.

I understand devs are going to balance Hornets eventually. I understand no one wants to give Orion too many good ships. I understand that its tough to make hornets better because of their four slots.

But there are ways around this. There is barely any difference between the Hornet 3 and Orion Hornet! My suggestion is to give it just 10 or so more thrust, and perhaps a little extra spin torque. This wouldn't make it elite, but it would definitely make this a more useable ship, as all special ships should be.

I say increase it's mass and thrust to handle slightly better than a light fighter. But nothing close to the prom or centaur.

The Hornet shouldn't handle anything like a light fighter. More like a medium would be a good thing (since that's what it is), but definitely nothing like a light.

ANOTHER petition?

It would be so much more useful if people just stated their argument when they post. Changes and additions to the game aren't made just because a group of users wants them. They are made because they are good ideas that fit the "big picture" of Vendetta.

How bout just upping its thrust by a bunch, while DROPPING its spin torque?

Makes it so that the ship can dodge, but lining up is going to be a serious problem.

That would also help to balance the rail problem. The hornet would have to get in its quad rails really early before the other fighter gets in too close.

Personally I think the hornet could use some more armor, a bit more thrust, and more cargo space.
Also, it was Ford Prefect.

The Hornet does not need more any cargo space. It's a heavy attack ship, not a cargo carrier. The basic varient carries 10cu, MkII carries 18cu, and the MkIII carries 12cu. IMO, that's more than enough.

as of now, it's more like a long distance surprise bomber. the only really good use i can think of is sneakily turboing at someone with 4 flares handy.
It should live up to it's name. Able to defend a convoy, but not completely able to fight up close.

From what I've heard about the CapShip being vulnerable to Gems, I think the Hornet should be rather effective against it.

The capship is vulnerable to everything, I dont think that applies.

most notoriously to asteroids.

I wonder if we can have a weapon that locks an asteroid beneath our ship and which we can then toss at the capship :D

I can see hornets comming to to more use now that a cap ship is in. Think of the hornet acting like a gunnery platform carrying quad gemini's in order to take out the turrets on the cap ship. Then of course it would need a fighter escort and immediatly makes things very interesting!

The Hornet should handle and accelerate somewhere between a Rag and a Hog (closer to a Hog, since the Rag's mass is uber). Since it's an attack ship, not a fighter or transport, I think one of the small ports should be substituted for a large port, the cargo capacity should be dropped (by 2cu, maybe), thrust should be increased and torque decreased slightly.
