More texture compression configurability
I turned on Texture Compression and immediately noticed a huge increase in performance -- even at Very High texture quality! And most textures look fine despite it--most textures.
I propose adding a submenu for texture quality, which mirrors the Texture Quality and Texture Compression for each individual texture type. (i.e. station, ship, background, text, etc.)

It'd be nice, since texture compression makes ship stripe colours not work on my hardware. If I could turn it on for stations and background (text is rendered with FreeType and itn't a texture afaik), that'd ease the load on my gfx card.
That'd be good, as the only thing that really knocks my card about is the stations, so being able to TC only those would be awesome.
Or maybe an ability to only turn textures down for (individually) asteroids, stations, ships.
That'd be cool.
And of course the texture ability.

Yes this would help low end gfx card users like me (9200 32megs). Because with texture compression on it makes ships modules in the station look ugly(or at least maybe before it did).
