Defending One's Self
I'm sure that this has been disscused already but I've only been playing for a couple of months and I've noticed some serious flaws in combat as done in terms of giving and taking of combat experience.
1st: Today I was minding my own business, mining a roid when I happened to be attacked by an experienced player (in an bus) who was using another character (who was 0 at all levels) for the purposes of fighting others in "Buswars". Well I did'nt want to leave my roid so I blasted him away. Then I found out that I lost 700pts in combat experience.
I also had the same situation when going through Sedina B8 I was ambushed by lower level pirates and I got rid of them and I lost points for that too. I'm not mad at the players who did this as matter of fact it was fun, but I don't think it's fair that players are penalized by losing hard earned expereince because of it. There should be something in place that when attacked, we can defend ourselves without losing points.
2nd: on the same note, I was coming out of of a station when I was quickly attacked by another player and I proceeded to shoot back. Well I got rid of the player, but I got hit by the guard bots and lost a ship because of it. Once again there should be something in place where one can defend themselves without losing in the process.

I think it's fairly likely (or at least very possible) that they'll change grey space so it doesn't have the XP penalties. See Incarnate & a1k0n's comments in this thread: http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/1/9162
O.K. Sorry I posted this. I did'nt look far enough for that post.
Yep, The hilarity of the situation kept unfolding as we were fighting mayhamically around the station in Odia M-14. I know My standing dropped at least nine times during that period, down to a horrid -201.
It was great fun trying to take a potshot at somone, then running from a strikeforce until the Aerna caught up, and after that trying to use the Aerna seeker to blow somone else up with. Not a very viable tactic, unless you are out after the riches of Metal Scraps. :)
As for the penalty.. Its silly to get it in Grey space. Really. Towards the end of the war I couldn't attack anyone below level 1 ( I had gained two levels due to the combat ) because I'd get a serious penalty of -100 for killing the other participators.
As for shooting back.. Swarms against a EC-88 is a bit overkill ;)
