Contraband: illegal weapons and goods, the black market, and cargo scanning.

<. . . doesn't involve being a criminal>

You can be a law enforcer. Perhaps we can combine two ideas together. UITs with "monitor" status in UIT space have the right to scan ships for contraband. Confiscation of contraband gets you a bounty.

I'd like to add to this thread Pausert's recent idea of being able to buy a "forged" license in Corvus space:

http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/10269

A forged license would require money rather than xp, but it would not earn you any extra xp, just the ability to buy ships at your forged level.

Every time you bought something above your "actual" experience level using your forged license, there would be a small chance that the vendor would detect the forgery, and you would lose drastic standing with that faction, have the forgery confiscated, and be fined.

Forgeries should be inordinately expensive, directly proportional to the amount of xp normally required for the forged license level. Perhaps there could even be different quality levels for forged licenses; the more you pay, the less likely vendors are to detect the forgery.

That way you could make a living by A) being an honest hot shot pilot and earning tons of xp grinding mobs (and players) or B) being a filthy rich trader that spends his time earning credits and buying his way into higher circles of power (and equipment).

This second lifestyle would be a lot less "honest" than the first, and there is always the risk of being caught in your shady dealings.

hah Phaser!

* T.K.Jode walks into Corvus Prime
I'd like a Combat 5 Fake ID Mark IV pls!!
* T.K.Jode walks into Orion Mining
I'd like an Orion Cent Rev C pls!!!
* Forced License Detected, Orion standing dropped to -400, and your IBG Cent in the docking bay just got impounded.
Nooooooooo!

It's kinda funny, but it's very true, we need more risk vs. reward in this game. I'd love to see more of this kind of dynamic.

you should have the option to try and bribe your way out of the fine, as long as your not in a highly respected place like a capital station or inside a capital system. Borders stations for instance or grey stations.

" I see you are using Corvus documentations, we'll have to impound your vessel… unless you make it worth my while to look the other direction, say… 50k? "

Also, if your vessel is impounded, you should not loose it all together, but simply be locked out of it till your levels are reached by more legal means. And perhaps have to pay an impound fee based on the time it sat in the impound yard. But you would still receive a fine for using forged documents, if you were unable to bribe your way out.

*ah-choo!*

Thought this was worth bringing up since the devs mentioned they were taking a look at the economy.

Gesundheit... now about those weapons..

[flyswatter of approval]

I think there should be a limit to what weapons are considerd contraband though... you can already buy a weapon in corvus and bring it to Serc/UIT/tani space without penalty... similarily, perhaps having only weapons >2 levels above your current licence level would be considered contraband (>1 in itani space?)

and yea, illegal widgets would be great... this is the evasive "CONTENT" that everyone says the game needs...

Itanis don't like cybernetics, Serco don't like Itani religeous artifacts, but what would be contraban goods to UIT?
They allready trade openly in weapons (of mass destruction?) so what we're left with is probably spacecrack and/or booze.

I'd like to see this, too, but I honestly think Other Stuff should be implemented first.
Give me a reason to be legit FIRST, then give me a reason to betray all morals and sell Serco Cybernetics to Itani with questionable (as seen from an Itani point of view) morals.

/unholy ritual of thread resurrection

I thought this thread might be relevant in light of the recent update now that it's possible to loot equipment from station guards and hive bots and players...

even though you looted that GT at level 0, better not get scanned with it equipped! just one possible way to curb the abundancy of high level equipment. I realize this suggestion probably isn't trivial, but I think it would add a fun dimension to gameplay at some point down the road.

yay necromancy! I was about to do this one myself...

with the equipment salvaging, I think that there should be a high level of leniancy, unless it is equipment that as a player of x-faction, you're not supposed to have at all.

This would include Law Enforcement Neutron Blasters liberated from a nation's strikeforce, Specialized military ships & equipment of one faction in an opposing faction's space, etc. basically anything that the military would want to confiscate for any reason.
