Hey, would you guys update the hornet for us, if done right, it has the potential to offset the proms. Just a request, havnt seen any new updates and the hornet is cool and we really need something to fight against proms.
It doesn't need much of an update. The hornet is unique because it is very, very easy to make uber. Right now, a quad-gauss mk 2 hornet can take down an Atlas or Warthog in two shots. Just two shots. That's an incredible first-strike power. Don't even get me started on quad-rails (possible with a heavy battery). While I think it would be fun to have a hornet with increased thrust/mass, I don't know that it would be easy to balance, and nobody wants an uber insta-kill ship.
Tram, have you tried the Orion Convoy Guardian? the only one that should get a lil update, as there is no way in hell i would defend even a roid in that thing, hehehe...

i agree with tramshed
of course, some simple statistics dumps would eliminate all this speculation.

Quoth Incarnate in In Progress:
"(haven't forgotten about light ship rebalancing either)."
No "new updates" have been scheduled until roughly the end of the month (per In Progress) - which is why you haven't seen them.
Not lazy - busy.

I'm not understanding how the Orion Convoy Guardian could be so bad when it has the same or better stats than the Hornet mkIII. So if it's bad the other hornets are worse.
I thought it was a medium ship not a light ship.
The ship that needs the most TLC is the Rag, I think.

Ahtawa, have you ever tried to take a hornet into battle? the thing gets hosed.
Well I haven't tried PvP yet, but in a recent "Ship Preferences" thread (http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/1/9027) Only one person even mentioned the Hornet I think (for when they wanted to die) So you're probably right.
I've had no problem botting in it though. Now I tried botting in a Rag and darn near doubled my deaths in one day in it. I'm starting to get used to it now though.
If the only 2 choices I had for PvP were the Hornet or the Rag I'd take the Hornet. Just my 2 cents though.

I love hornets. They explode so easily.
Taking a hornet into a duel is like taking a samurai sword into a gunfight. You may die quickly, but damn you'll look cool.
Especially if it's a popcorn hornet.
You'd think you could hit something with 4 popcorns going ... but sheesh! Tis truly the most craptacular config available.
Yeah, the hornet is a good botter, but a worthless fighter. Sure it can carry a huge amount of firepower, but it cant track the thing its trying to shoot. Its huge so its easily hit, and its slow, so it cant dodge.
Heavy fighters need to be made just that, heavy fighters. I don't want to repeat what has been said here time over time, and the devs are working on the heavy ships, but I would just quickly like to express my feelings in this matter.
If you upgrade the thrust and engine too much, then you have the risk of getting a ship that flies like a light fighter but with dubble the guns, then you might ask, why would i ever again want to fly a light fighter.
Personally, I would like to see batteries with dubble the capacity in heavy fighters, so that they can sustain their superiour firepower wich compensates for the difficulty to get a aim on a fast light fighter. If they where upgraded this way (maybe 2 battery slots??) they don't even have to get extra manouverability for me.

2 batteries wouldn't help the Hornet, it can't get through the first one alive in PvP. The only time the Hornet was briefly useful was when rails cost 100 or less energy and you could hide behind a donut station and one-shot kill unsuspecting suckers.
Ed. I should point out that I was the sucker, not the shooter =(

Hoax, the original specs on Rails were (about) as follows:
Small port
1600 damage
400 m/s
10 energy/shot
2 shot/second (.5 second delay)
30 ammo (xith pellets)
No auto-aim
fixed price of about 1400c ... may have been more

hoax yes i have tried that too... 4 flechette on hornet... it looks like its 'spraying' alot, but really it isnt... or maybe im imagining things.
on the other hand i just killed a centurion using a hornet. quad gemini at 50m.

The Hornet is not a light nor even a medium fighter. It is a *HEAVY* Attack Ship (as per the ship description in-game). I haven't flown a Hornet since Alpha for the reason that it was too heavy for it's stated purpose. It handled like a slug, accelerated like a slug, and was an energy hog taboot. If you missed your first salvo, kiss your tail buh bye as even a stock bus can fly circles around it. Can't see where anything has changed to date.
Well it's a heavy fighter, but a fighter is a light ship. So I guess it's a heavy-light ship :)
Anyway it is 6000 kg which makes it alot lighter than the heavy ships: Centaur 15000 kg, Ragnarok 16000 kg; and heavier than the other real fighters: Centurion 4500 kg and Vulture 4200 kg.
The difference between the Hornet and the lighter fighters is even greater after you put 4 weapons on it, and the acceleration is much much worse.
Regardless of the in game description, I'd call it a medium ship in about the same weight class as the Warthog, but for some reason the Warthog is much better.

Id call it busbait.
