As Roguelazer stated, he asked for and received permission from a1k0n before forming the IDF. Now, while the IDF may be central to Itani society, they are not the central theme that much of the backstory actually revolves around that the Order of Akan are. I don't know if the commander of the existing Order of Akan player guild actually asked the Devs if it was acceptable to form a guild under the guise of the Order of Akan, though it could be argued that the fact that they are still allowed to operate under Order of Akan banner might be taken for tacit permission. It may also mean that the Devs simply have more important things to worry about at the moment.

Until you know a bit more about Marron, I wouldn't speak so generally, why not ask him?

Marron, the Guides, and/or the Devs are all welcome to join the discussion. Why not point Marron this way and have him give his perspective on the subject? :-)

I have reworded my previous post's commentary so as not to sound so inflammatory. My apologies to Marron [et al] for my previous tone. It is not my intention to attack any member of the player run Order of Akan guild or even the guild itself. I am simply suggesting that this one guild name should not be allowed in the player domain given its strong backstory links. I have no problem with the guild and/or it's Rank and File.

Paedric: my post was clear I think, it was all about the Order of Akan.

I've spoken to at least one member of this guild, and I told them that I have no problem with the existence of the guild for the timebeing, but when the actual planned faction (or even a Guide Event element) is added into the game, the guild will have to have its name/function changed. I'm in favor of players being involved in the storyline and RPing as much as possible, so as long as a story element hasn't been implemented anyway, and isn't abused, I'm not going to oppose its use. Given that, obviously when we get to the point of making use of the element ourselves, whatever we create will have to supplant whatever user-created organizations or mechanisms exist. I think (or, at least, hope) this is generally understood.

I'm not even going to get into the whole shield thing, except to say that no player-characters in the game are currently capable of using an Energy Focus. This doesn't conflict with the story, none of you are monks. (Yet).

After reading the last sentence of incarnate's post, I am now grinning and getting one of those happy feelings...

Does your happy feeling have something to do with the gratuitous use of the use of the word (YET) as that last sentence?

My posts were also clear. This wasn't about eradicating the guild as an entity. Simply a suggestion that the guild's name was very closely linked to the backstory and should not be allowed within the relm of player run guilds. The guild itself is fine. And since Incarnate has weighed in on the subject, it is now a moot point.

I think if and when the Devs create the Order as its own faction, the members of the current guild should have their accounts changed to reflect their incorporation (at their discretion, of course). The Order should be one of the choices for the faction the player will join (aside from Itani, Serco and UIT). Or, perhaps, the Order should invite members based on their hostility toward Serco pilots and bots and their kill stats.

Or perhaps Incarnate already has plans around that.

If any of you remember from the beta, there was a rank section in the character info screen. I have a feeling that that section was removed from the screen, but not the database. Just a thought...

Paedric, we might be past that, but in regards to your "Why doesn't Marron say something?", and in response to Spiders "chatting in public" I'd like to point out that multiple times on multiple characters (from varying nations) I've tried to goad Akan guild members into sayin something, and they don't seem to press "t" (or shift-t) at all, unless they need to. I'm not calling you a lier/exagerator (sp?)/taunter (is that a word?), we might have encountered different members, but it is my understanding that the Akan members have been asked (by Marron or an Lt) to keep silent unless absolutely necesary.

probably, most likely trying to role-play as in the back story where they may say something then maintain radio silence, thats why their homeworld has never been found (yet?)

I said that Marron was welcome to join the discussion if he chose too. Don't recall ever asking "Why doesn't Marron say something?" and have never accused members of the guild of any disreputable actions. My reasoning has been laid out. Please reread my posts.

Akan, of the Order of Akan guild is cruising around in a Serco Sky Command attempting to pirate my moth. I'm not fussed about this, as a pirate i'm used to it, but It is not quite what I expected from a guild such as this.
