Solving the InfniBoost War--->Must Read
I know the subject is touchy and very tender. the FC bat is probably the most controversial topic. and if you want info on that just look for it yourself, i am almost 100% you would hear both stories
so now the thing to end it all.
Lock-down mode.
AKA
Safety mode
AKA
Low power mode
AKA
standby mode.
WTF you ask.
well in a real spaceship we are not always gong to have every system running at 100% power capacity right?
yes???
you say yes???
WRONG! when your on your computer. does it always give off the same amount of heat? no (well if you have a Dual 2.0 G5 or 800 mhz G3 iBook or the old 1400 Powerbook.) (all mac) they give off different heat in different situations.
when i render movies my g5 goes up to 75% power increasing fan rotation and sound it goes from a gentle hum to a mild whir. so:
in VO. if a Trader is traveling from point A to Point B and knows there are now Charles out there waiting to get him does he equip guns? No. i don't it's a wast of mass, why bother. besides, what is 20,000c if you have 48 Denic that you know goes for 1825c/e thats 87,000, so you only make 67,000. but you did make it.
so trades usually run light or with escort.
so they don't need extra energy running to the guns right?
and if there are carrying a gun, wouldn't they have it turned off? why make the pirates nerves with heated cannon, it's like waving a loaded gun at a Police officer while he is giving you a parking ticket. bad news.
so have a Powered down, or Standby mode.
What does it do?
the story mode:
"Standby mode initiated t-120 seconds before completion" says the mission computer. it had been a long mining day and now the trip will finally pay off. "t-60 seconds until standby mode" thats it, you hit the accelerator and bring the ship up to 60m/s and start the turbo. "t-30 seconds" your power goes from 450- to 300 is seconds, and you let off of the turbo. t-10 seconds" tats it, you hit the turbo and i 9 seconds your power is now at 100 and then "standby mode initiated, all combat systems powered down" Infiniboost, you are now traveling at 200m/s and there is now power drain, its smooth sailing from there on out.
what just happened (technical description)
because that trader turned off all combat systems (guns, shields, cloaking, antimissile, missile, and mines) he can achieve infiniboost, it takes 2 min to activate this and 2 minutes to turn it off.
PRO:
trades will usually run in this mode
CON:
not good for CTC of PVP. cant shoot guns for 4 min (2 for inf. activate and 2 for deactivate.)
overal?... i leave that to the critics and the devs, post your thoughts...

That sounds like a convenient mode for trading. I would use it. I'm tired of getting killed by the Serco SAF while doing special deliveries from Corvus Barracks.
As long as weapons are temporarily inoperable, it would seem an effective mode for trading.

Intriguing,
but how long does it take to power up your weapons when you warp into a bunch of happy camping pirates who see you as a fish in a barrel?

2 Min, but then what trader would be "warping into a bunch of happy camping pirates who see you as a fish in a barrel?" and expect to live.
if your loaded down with say helo, and have a mass of 24000 your chances of survival are around 20%
and besides, pirates, who just kill, are Worthless PVP's, not pirates, there like serial murderers... in space.
what can you do?
easy, power up, turn off standby mode BEFORE going into the cats mouth.
BTW "not good for CTC of PVP. cant shoot guns for 4 min (2 for inf. activate and 2 for deactivate.)"
i covered that 2nd to last line.

Wow, no flaming from other people yet.
In many ways this is like cruise engines in freelancer. They take some time to get going and while they are running you can't fire. Once they are running you can fly forever at a reasonably high speed.
let me flame you
why do you put 'must read' in your posts? do you think eveyrone elses topics are garbage?
and why do you have to write so much? keep it simple. we dont need to know about how computers work. most of us do already.
the paragraph where you actually described your idea, which we only get to about halfway through your post, was so full of mispelling and bad grammar that i could barely understand what you were talking about.
but the idea itself is interesting. unfortunately we dont have any cloaking devices or etc. furthermore, most traders who want to escape pirates will be very displeased if they cannot drop mines. i owe dozens of escapes to mines, and only mines. traders who want to 'fight pirates' with guns are.. well.. what can i say. they are probably flying a marauder, which has little chance of defeating a pirate in a better ship in a gunfight, even with cargo dropped.
