After getting "locked out" from a station
It seems like a lot of people keep killing admired players in nation and neutral faction space despite all warnings (heck, even I did that before I knew about the hit, but at least it was UIT and I worked my standing up via botting).
Perhaps to stop all of this running to the boards/guides and begging to get standing fixed (which has absolutely no consequences, and thus, the player really doesn't learn anything), a sort of "bribe the station" option can be implemented. When a player drops below -599, he or she can hail the guards and they'll say to transfer so much money (maybe 5000?... 10000?... it should definitely be variable on the standing and ship size) to a station guard and they will not be attacked. That way the player can raise their standings back to acceptable levels, but there was a definite (and expensive) consequence for their actions.

people have already suggested that idea and it's a good one. I second it!!
Opposed (or "zero sum") factions would help fix this too.
As an alternative to hailing guards, perhaps in The Bar you could find reputation fixers who can repair your standing at a safer distance. For example, there might be a guy in Jallik who can fix up your UIT reputation for a million creds.

that'd be neat, especially if it was set up so that if you did any damage to anyone once you had the new "bought" standing, it would revert to its previous value ( :) fake ID's don't do so well under a microscope)
Okay, here's a modification.
You can hail the station guards for a temporary standing change to -599 until you leave the sector again. (this choice is better if you're only just slightly below -599 and several trade runs can put you over)
-or-
You can pay off the station itself from the bar for a significant sum of money to bring your standing to -599. (this choice is better if you're way below -599. Let's say it costs 50,000cr per 100 standing)
-or-
You can contact X shady character at Corvus stations and after you drop several mil, you can get your standing raised to 0. The caveat is that if you violate the no-fire zone, you take standing hits whether a player dies nor not, and if a player dies in the no-fire zone, a large standing hit occurs (unless you've raised your standing to respected).
Certain other caveats: you cannot "buy off" Serco, Itani, or UIT stations. Attempting to do so results in a standing drop. You CAN buy fake IDs from Corvus, but they are far more expensive than neutral corps. If you lose Corvus standing, you can buy them off, but they're more expensive than neutral corps. You cannot get a fake ID for Corvus from another corporation.
