Range To Target Under Aiming Reticle
I wouldn't be surprised if this has already been proposed at some point or other, since it's not a novel idea. I'm gonna resurrect it, though ;o)
With the more maneuverable fighter ships, it's rather hard to keep your eye on the target and read the distance to the target since it's stuck up in the corner... is there any way we can stick the distance under the aiming reticle?

to add to that idea, that whole box in the corner should be added to the reticle, the ship varient, damage meter, distance, name. This does not need to be very large text but at least in the screen where we can see it without having to take our eyes off like theluckyone suggested. Great idea!!!!
Or the data be around the ship we target. kinda like this:
Name of pilot here
[ ship with box around it here]
Distance here
I think adding the damage meter would make things to cluttered, maybe you could make the "you hit them" sound change depending on how much heath they have.

add a thin bar to the bars that are already there for tubo and acceleration/deceleration, 1/4 as thick to display target damage. not too cluttered that way.
That would work...
I've thought about suggesting this for a long time. 100% agree that all the info in the upper-right-corner box should be represented on the target box. Target's acceleration isn't so important to me, because you can infer that.
A life meter can be incorporated directly into the target box to avoid clutter. Let's see if my Photoshopping skillz are up to the task:

Up to the challenge and surpassed, that is even better then I had in my minds eye!! Way to go, now only if we can get it in game!!
Yes!!!!! I Too Would Like To Ruin My Eyesight Trying To Follow Valuable Information As It Zig-Zags Around My Screen Before Disappearing Off My Screen, Where I Can't See It At All!!!!!!!!
gawd thats an old screenie.
Sector 4 brings back some memories tho.
Anyhow on topic, i like that as a layout, with one change. The variant doesnt need to be displayed there. That information is fine if left up in the upper right corner. A name, range and health is sufficient for the target reticle. The variant isnt iformation that is going to change, so a quick glance at the top right should be enough, and then you dont have the ship variant info culttering up the center of the hud.

I disagree, knowing the varient can give you insight into the weight of the ship and is valuable info. Also, by putting all that info in the corner, you free up the corner for OTHER info, such as license levels or can just free up the hud altogether.
I like what wylfing did, it's a great idea.
You only need to see the variant once, is what spell is saying. There's no need to be staring at VultIV for the entire fight... it's not going to magically transform. Keeping that off the target reticule keeps it less cluttered and leaves room for other information that may become important later on.
Spellcast, you are right. Ship variant can be left off to the side.
There's probably no reason to remove the information from the upper right corner, where ship data could remain. I wouldn't mind even more information up there -- I don't need to see my current cash balance all the time, but knowing something about an opponent's loadout immediately upon targeting would help.
