Asteroid Orifaces
It would be nice if there were different colored edges or different colored asteroids for those of us who mine.
Sure, I can see the temperature of the asteroid when I target it, however, to press 'b' to find the asteroid's temperature is a bit tedious.
If the asteroids that were at 10K temp were deep blue, and the asteroids that were at 550K were bright red, it would be really a nice thing for us who mine... even if the colors were around the edges.
Not sure if I explained this like I imagine it... but I hope y'all get the idea.

This is probably impossible, or if it IS possible, incredibly server intensive... (I.e. this will be one of those, "wouldn't it be neat posts") but what if Miners had the ability to bore through rocks. Miners would become very useful in building stations inside of roids, building strategic outposts... etc..
although changing the shape of the roid would be server intensive, changing the color of the roid based on temperature sounds feasable.
Then, you could mark roids :) by their temperature. even make a little path... *this way to secret wh in s10..*j/k

Wouldn't affect the server at all. The server already sends temp data to the client- it would be up to the client to alter the colors of the roids. Like the blue glow of roids in a storm.
i agree with drawing special colored lines around the edges of asteroids, but only if you have a special 'infrared camera' item on your ship, and turn it on.
although it might be easier to implement if they just draw the entire asteroids polygons with special colors.

Just a physics comment 10 degrees K and they would not glow at all... and they would continue to not glow until about 550(about 130 C, or 280 F) Though if you were to make parts of them glow where you were mining that would make since (though the you would want to specify a few different mining places per asteroid each holding its own temp…)
instead of placing the color on the roid itself, couldn't the color of the dot on the radar reflect the temp of the roid, as long as you had your mineral scanner equipped. Or, once they implement the new slots, a more appropriate device for determining the temps (IR sensors, etc.)
