An idea that evoli and I fleshed out the other night.

Its an S-port rocket weapon, that functions like the Concussion Mine. No damage, lots of Foof.

Speed: 95m/s
Damage: 0
Ammo : 40
Energy: 40
Repeat: 0.5s
Proximity: 25m
Concussion: 2000

The minor details are probably up for buisness, however, this would be the perfect tie-breaker for a pirate, combattant or for that matter, trader. The energy usage will prevent it from being too much used for spamming.

The concussion is, and should be, enough to toss a valk around a couple of times if its hit straight on, the speed will make it useful for hunting down a running trader (against their will) and at least ridge them somewhat.

Change the name to something like 'Hercules Replusion Torpedo'. Up the damage to about 200 and give it a splash radius of like 100m. Reduce ammo to something like 24. Up cycle rate to like 1s. Give it a weight of about 800kg.

Well actually, at 0 damage and a low weight, they would make a great practice tool. with 200 damage they would actually be dangerous, I like that too.

I disagree with the weight, 800 is too much to make anything rocket based useful with the current ship designs.

100 damage would be okay. 200 would be too much, though. I figure that a mass of about 350kg would be fine.

if it's suppost to be just a concussion style weapon why add any damage at all, isn't the point just to get them disoriented enough to do whatever it is you need to do?

At 100 damage, a tri-Foomer Valk could unload all 24x3=72 rockets into a target and be unable to do anything but play croquet with it (maximum 7200 damage). So, even at 200 damage they won't be overly bad.

The main point of the damage though was to make getting violently shoved around creditable.

I agree that 800kg is heavy, so while we are at it why don't we lower the weights of all the rocket type weapons.

Make it 0 damage, and blast radious 10,000.. And use them to knock pesky strike force back! They would kill someone though.. getting knocked back hard into a roid..

Yeah, at 100 that is so, but at 200 it'd be more dangerous, and would risk taking the fun out of a friendly fight :)

and yeah, Agree that it'd be more credible with the shakedown.

@gamejunky: Are you insane? 10 000 blastradius???

a mass of 350 would be quite okay, enough to be usable and still fun.

I can imagine a few productive ideas for this. Pinball! ;)

for the trader, the concussion mines.
for the pirate, the concussion rockets.
one of the morals of this story: no one should fly in a straight line!

awesome idea. would make running from pirates a lot more interesting. just make sure it will jostle a loaded centaur.

No, the target would be to make sure it (barely) jostles the largest marauder filled with convoy cargo.
that is around 34000kg .... :-)

there's more flipping around when you're in a lighter ship, but light ships recover fast... need a steady supply of foomers to keep any fighter out of balance ;)
