idea for secrets (stations,warpholes)
Miss hunting for secret sectors?
I. The notion I have for secret sectors is to have them change location, like ion storms; the sectors with secrets in them would appear in certain places for a long duration (*pulls number out of nowhere*--how about 4 days), then move somewhere else.
Explorers will always have something new to explore, since sector locations are not static.
II.--Unlike ion storms, secret-sectors would not pull you out of your path.
III.-Since it's clearly hard to imagine combing each of 7000+ sectors as thoroughly the old 18 sectors were combed for secrets, the secret-sectors would need to be distinctive , the way ion storms are...
ex. maybe secret-sectors could have swirling red ion particles?
One pilot can stumble upon a red-ion secret sector and notify teams of explorers to search the area for secrets. The sector could contain secret wormholes that connect to another secret wormhole sector on the other side of the universe (like s16, s15). It could contain a station with lucrative products (s14 of old), etc...
IV.--It would be nice to have a secret sector that offers all the equipment (and a large selection of ships?) one could ever want, regardless of license level.
Let the route to such a sector be hard and perilous. I doubt that this would heavily affect the role of license levels in the game; after all,
(a) stockpiling is hard (long and perilous way to travel), and
(b) you can't count on that secret sector to be there always.
(c) Maybe have sectors that had special weapons? Instead of only CtC combat for weapons, you could Explore for equipment.
(d) Secret sectors could also have special ore to mine, which could generate the raw material for making new weapons at normal stations.
V. --Secrets could also include "nifty stuff", like racetracks. *advocates a racetrack in roid city. again. :)*
VI.--What about alien factions housed in secret sectors? Let the faction standing for homing at a secret sector be 800+ standing with that faction. If any pilot can attain such a high faction standing with said alien faction in 4 days, good for him; if not, he'll have to scour the universe in order to gain standing with the alien faction again.
(a) Homing in a secret sector would allow you to keep track of it, perhaps keeping a nice source of valuable cargo/ore/equipment at hand. However, homing there would effectively make you a nomad of space. A serco pilot, gaining favor and homing in a secret sector he found in Odia, might wake up one day to find himself in System Itan.
This could be good or bad for said serco pilot, really.
(b) If many sercos were homed to the secret sector, then they could use the sector as a springboard for intercepting Itani CtC convoys.
(c) If the pilot is homed alone, he could lie low (be sneaky and furtive in his actions?) and hope the Itanis don't find the the sector.
(d) If enemy pilots were to discover his home sector, he'd have the option of preventing them from gaining favor with the alien faction also. He may have a slight advantage, fighting on home turf; but the lone pilot is one against many, and a number of enemy pilots could subdue/bankrupt him. The lone pilot has to sleep too...
>>The pilots who opt to be space nomads would most likely be explorers or pirates, who have little qualms in leaving behind the protected regions of space.
*I'll add more/brush this up later*
