New Players and Ion Storms
When I was first playing the game Ion storms screared the crap out of me. I didn't have the ship to survive them. I wasn't fast enough to run and I didn't have the weapons to fight if I got caught in a system with the more powerful bots. Even while still in the heart of my nations systems I would get cought in a system with Apu-teks and get blown to pieces and the trade missions kept sending me further and further away from the safer systems. Now that im tough enough to take on some of the more advanced bots, I have the ship to out run them so that ion storms are no longer a threat to me.
It might be better for new players if the core systems didn't have anything better than collector bots and the trading missions kept players from straying too far from the safer areas. As license levels increase the trade missions would send the player toward the border systems which would have more of the tougher bots.

My only concern is that this hasn't been suggested before (I did a search, found nothing quite like this). My only suggestion, at least until this idea is implemented, is that you mine and sell to increase your Trading & Commerce license to level 1, get a Wraith, and get 2 Plasma Cannons(as upgraded as you can) and a Stingray missile launcher.
I'm fine with the Ion storms now that I've advanced. I think my point is that when I was a new player Ion storms were a real threat and now they are just a minor annoince. It seems like one of the things that made the game very hard at first, but is now rather easy to deal with.
My experience with the diffuculty of the game was that it was easy at first, then got very difficult before becoming easier again (not too easy, but a nice balance). I really like playing this game and I would like to see it take off from here and become succesful. I'm just making a few suggestions and pointing out somethings that I had a rough time on to make the game more enjoyeble for new players.

Hmm.
An idea would be to disable the turbo inside an ION storm. I'm sure it'd grab people's attention for real. And it'd make it all the more dangerous even for high level players in good ships.
A centaur would be dead-meat inside a storm with DenTek Assaults. ..... ;)
Also. I'd want some more, and simpler, bots to be introduced for home sectors. Ie, nerf the ApuTech-5 and slot in a couple of different versions. Fex. A collector with popcorngun, a collector with popcorngun that -dodges- and so on in the levels up to the ApuTech-5. Then kick the Assaults out of the Capitol sectors, and drop the ApuTech-5 in numbers.
