The game is too plain, needs more variety
Right now there is no need for someone to explore since all the factions, systems and planets have basically the same everything - ships, weapons. I would suggest this:
1) Set it up so that each faction(of the 3) has a few ships of their own. Some ships should be allowed to be purchased by other factions, but not all of them to create a variety
2) Same thing for weapons. Make for example some races more advacnes with weaponry, and some have more powerful shields(see my previous posting). This would even work with the storyline as the Itani(bettwe shields) were advanced but now are pacifist and Serco are warlike(better weapons). UIT can be like scavengers allowed to purchase from each faction
3) This would be great: Add LostTech caches with powerful items that can be used for a limited time(till the power runs out for example or perhaps you'd need to be in a certain area to use it)
4) Customization of ships and weapons would be super. Why not allow someone to build a super fast, yet poorly armored ship or something. That would create a great variety and you wouldn't have everyone using the same stock ships, rather testing different varients.
These suggestions will make people want to fly and explore different sectors. If you added random and stationary events that people could search for, that would be even better, for example:
- lighting storms that could damage a ship
- gravity wells that could temporarily pull you in
- stars going Nova
- comets that you could follow and hide in the tail
Damn there is so much you could do!!! I wish I was working with you guys, great idea for a game, looking for any more programmers?

I would imagine the devs know exactly what the game needs, they have built it from nothing after all. It just takes time and money. Both of which they are short of unfortunatly
i am flying a tgp faction atlas X ship, which has much more cargo and much less mass than the standard atlas. i can get this only because i did missions for the TGP faction.
TGP also supposedly has a special 'maurader' cargo ship.
right now the itani and serco are the only ones who can get the Neutron MkIII gun. and they can only do that if they win the 'capture the cargo' game. UIT cant get this gun. then again i think (not exactly sure about this... ) that UIT have special advantages when getting mining equipment and trading ships.
i have explored plenty, 1. to find unusual ores 2. to find ways around ion storms 3. to find new weapons and ships 4. to see if i can buy better stuff for less license, in corvus stations in grayspace.
