Border Guard and Guardian ships

Nov 20, 2004 Spider link
okay, here's a shingle for the pocket.

Can we have a counter for completed border guard missions, say a dozen to start with, and make the Serco Guardian Vulture and the Itani Border Guard Centurion depending on this badge?

It'd give the border conflicts some reason, and would settle us a bit more nicer into early-level combatting.

...maybe this is a good idea, but I know my fellow UIT like these ships, too.. something to keep in mind?

Well, if they do, then they will suddenly have to take a side in the war. Is that too much to ask?

They would be sacrificing their neutrality, become KOS with one more nation in the game, but at the same time gain access to another more "specialized" ship.

I guess something else would need to be implemented for the UIT, however that is done...

The idea behind the UIT is to let players actually BE neutral.

Not to say, "You're a neutral player, but you have to choose sides anyway."

Taking sides SHOULD have great benefits, to counter the whole KoS ting, but there should always be other ways to get at least most of those benefits. After all, you can always prove your worth to a nation fighting pirates, as well as taking out its martial opponents.

There also should be benefits to being neutral, aside from 'nobody shoots me.' (Which isn't true anyway, as Icarus will attest to.) Maybe corporations that have no interest in the war, who will only sell to people who don't overtly help Serco OR Itani...

Well, yes. they can, but why should the sk. Neutral players have access to the warring nations -guardian- ships?

Such a thing would require taking a standpoint, to actually become a fighter for that side, to be trusted enough (as trusted as the own nations pilots. Ie. Loved (+600 ) and taking the combat missions to prove it).

Of course, this is a higher loss for a UIT player, since doing it would be to take a side, but they -can- remain indifferent and Neutral.

And why should there be a special "Neutral" thing here? You have a Territorial Defender warthog, requiring some mission to be completed for that is simple. Giving the same demands to Serco and Itani who want it is just the same.

The other ideas are fairly offtopic and should be in another thread.

bump & a YES vote for Spider's idea of mission-based ship access. Having these "mini-quests" in-game makes it that much more of a rich and diversified experience.

Slightly off-topic:

As far as UIT participation comes into play, what about applying the concept of a mercenary to your play? A UIT player (or guild for that matter) could easily become a merc to the highest bidder and still remain "neutral." Mercs are only fighting for money, after all. :-)

I think that to get Itani or Serco custom ships (Serco Vulture Guardian, SkyCommand Prometheus, etc) a set of missions to establish that you're "worthy" is a good idea.

These missions could also serve as a "defection" set of missions for UIT who want to become Serco (or for whatever reason, Itani). Not just aligning themselves with a faction, but actually making them a part of it. A lot of new players pick UIT as their starting nation, which results in an abnormally high number of neutral players. Many of these players eventually side with a different nation. Wouldn't it be nice if they could "go all the way, " if they're not going to remain neutral anymore?

If they want to remain neutral but biased, they won't have access to the special ships, but just the high stock versions (Vulture IV, Prometheus III, etc).
