display api
Bear with me on this one...
The idea i'm suggesting is an onscreen customizable display.
It would allow the display of text or html. Features that would make it truly useful would be:
configurable update rates
binding a key to cycle the text that is displayed
binding a key for forced updates
Customizable onscreen locations
The idea that spawned this thought was being able to bring in info from the Vendetta Trade Goods Database onscreen while flying. This could be accomplished by a moderately able scripter and the above api. Basically, i want to be able to write a spider that accepts an origin and a destination and saves them difference information to a file. Then I'd like to be able to view this file in-game, formatted as i like.
This opens up access to information produced by other players and minimizes the changes necessary to the game itself. Users could customize information they want to see. I've noticed that a big draw in the game seems to be communication. More communication and sense of community and the more populated the game feels. It solidifies ties between folks. Those of us who can code can make little widgets that others might like to add.
if you want to be stupid cool you could make it so it supports RSS feeds.
Remember, geeks thirst for information...
that and the blood of Itani.
