I'd really like to be able to name my ships. Simple but fun.

I agree - it would be better than the current classification system that comprises the ship type and a serial number (or perhaps as an addition to it). However, knowing the name of a ship would have to be related in some way to it's being registered, so how would a Serco know the name of an Itani ship, if the Itani registered the name of the ship in Itani space?

Maybe have the name be something the ship transmitted along with its serial number as part of its IFF...

Opens up possibilities later of forged name/serial number combos available for covert ops or from pirates....

I want this too.

It doesn't have to be broadcast. I'd just like to be able to tag my own ships in the Select Ship screen, and there's a little bit of a roleplaying feeling to it.
