death = bad suggestion.
why not make certain weapons/ships available only after completing a mission and losing it when dead? it makes sense doesn't it? you do advanced combat mission, kill 50 bots and at the end you get the chance to buy a ship. you die, you lose it. you do massive trade run for TPG, they give you Cent MKII. You do border patrol mission and succeed, you get Vulture MKIV or whatever.
this should apply only to certain makes of ships and weapons AND to all special ships.
Reason being... Everyone has access to everything, they die they buy again, no problem. It's boring. If I know that if I die now, I'll have to do that mission again I sure as hell will try much harder than now to stay alive.

What about the thousands of requests to return a ship lost due to lag. Or piracy. It's bad enough (in some peoples' minds) that they have to bot for 12 hours to get their ship, but now they have to do part of it again?
No thanks. Maybe on custom or unique ships that you could conceivably get from a mission, but not on stock equipment.
But, if you're suggesting there be "tweaked" ships that you can't buy directly from a station, then I agree completely. Part of having better missions will be better rewards.

thginkrej. perhaps if you read my message again, after your knee jerk reaction you'll actually understand I was saying exactly what you accuse me of not understanding.
I think a better thing would have a greater selection of ships the higher of which are only avaible to the people who have specific lisnces or passes given to you by your specific government when you accept or complete certain missions.
Also what about having better ships avalible in pirate space???
Maybe when you die you should lose one liscene level
Just throwing out ideas

Cripes, a full license level?! In a game emphasizing PvP? Are you CRAZY? Do you know how long it takes to go from level 9 to 10? How would ou like to do that again? In case you've never tried to go from a license level 9 to 10, it's basically going from level 0 to 7 (about a 60 or 70k difference) again.
One thing that I like about this game is that there are no major death penalties. Trust me, I try VERY hard to keep from dying, but there's the semi-frequent run-in with Eldrad, or the occasional network hiccup that results in my smashing into an asteroid that I didn't know I was headed for, or an Arklan guardian that was 2000m away suddenly blowing me up.

randomize. Perhaps if YOU reread YOUR post, you'd see that your suggestion was ambiguous at best. You propose getting a Cent. Mk2 for a trade mission, and a Vult Mk4 for a border patrol mission. And you mention that this could apply to all special ships.
Then, if you reread MY post, you'll notice that I suggest new ships or new configurations that aren't "stock" or buyable by anyone, rather than taking away ships that are currently available and making them harder to get.
Don't be so quick to assume something is a knee-jerk reaction. I read your post as carefully as I could, and I gave what I thought was a thought-out response. And I never accused you of anything.
Not everybody is out to blast your ideas. It's a good idea, it just needs discussion, which is what we're here for.

MKII or MKIV are definitely not stock.
stock ships, in my books, are all ships without MK at the back of it.
I apologize if we have misunderstood each other.
I repeat, my suggestion applies only to special/modded ships and weapons. And my choice of examples for ships is purely for illustration purposes.
Thank you.

To clear up some confusion:
To my knowledge, usually when an aircraft get's a new Mk number, it is not because it has be specially modified, but because the MANUFACTURER made a design modification to stay on or ahead of the technology curve and now all models of that aircraft produced will be of that Mk number, and not the previous.
The Spitfire Mk. IX is not a "special" modification of the Spitfire. It is an improvement by Supermarine on the original Spitfire's design to be able to combat the FW-190. If I took my "stock" Spitfire Mk. IX, and removed the cannons and replaced them with gatling guns, then it would definitely NOT be stock.
The Vulture Mk. IV is a stock ship. It is an improvement over the Mk. III, which is an improvement over the Mk. II, etc. The Serco Vulture Guardian, is not a stock ship. It is specially modified by Serco.

let's not make it botting more...
I liked the idea of having expensive/more valuable equipment in pirate space. Instead of "rebotting", the player would have to make a journey through hostile terrain (think s17 and s18 of old... aggressive bots and pirates lurking, secret warpholes...)

Wait... hold up... There are secret wormholes?!
There were in the old 18 sector universe, but when the dev's introduced this giant new universe, they had too much to do to re-introduce the secret wormholes. On the plus side there is a planned exporation expansion which will reintroduce secret wormholes in a big way. :)
