Nation advantages for Itani and Serco
Currently theres tons and tons of neutral players, which i believe is not the way the story should be.
There should be say a story based mission for you to rise in either the ranks of Serco or Itani, giving you an advantage over the other side.
Say when your doing the Serco missions you get available Armour upgrades, +100-1000 at the cost of your mass.
This would fit in with the description of them.
And for Itani you could Buy Weight reducing components, say - 200 at the cost of 3 cargo spaces, or 1000 at the cost of a (S) port, perfect for there agile fighters.
These would be on a 'Nation mission' which would only be open to Members of that nation, so there would be advantages to being that nation, becuase currently theres only the border combat missions.
Surely theres meant to be more Itani and Serco than Neutral?

There are meant to be, but right now, the UIT has all the advantages. They can
-go anywhere
-take almost any mission
-destroy convoys without serious career-ending repercussions from their own nation
-and no matter who wins the cargo mission string, they still get the weapon at the end.
The nations literally have no counter-bonus for all of this.

Lin witnessed a UIT player actually destroy a Serco transport IN the destination sector (Catequil Outpost), and deliver the cargo to the station. That can't be right. If you're a neutral, you can't go around destroying other peoples' shipping without some sort of consequence.
As for access to all ships, take Switzerland for example. A couple years ago, they purchased a bunch of F/A 18C and Ds from the United States to supplement their air force of F-5s and other older fighter types. Generally, the UIT should not get access to top-of-the-line fighters, but rather fighters that are a generation old. If they want top of the line fighters, they should have absurdly high favor with that government (+1500 or something) and low favor with the other (-800), and the fighter costs a heck of a lot more than a nation player would have to pay. For instance, in modern air forces, pilots don't have to pay for their planes (maybe Vendetta's current prices), but if a private citizen wants to buy the same plane, they'd first have to get all sorts of permits from the government, and have to buy the plane from them (maybe 1000 times more expensive).
Yike.. Just took a look at the Active Players list. There are currently 34 Itani, 21 Serco, and 56 UIT. Over TWICE the number of UIT players as there are Serco and Itani COMBINED. Many new players have stated that they selected neutral because they thought it'd be easier than picking a side. Some people actually left Serco because of the unbecoming backstory. This means: Itani and Serco have to start killing UIT on sight to force them to choose a side to stop getting beaten on.... Well okay, maybe not.

Agreed if the UIT's a trader nation, make it a trader nation. Take away access to:
-Centurion MKIII (no cargo space, no reason for a non-military nation to sell 'em)
-Warthog MKIII (same reason as Centurion)
-All variants of the Vulture (see above)
-I don't have the heart to take away the Hornet. They can keep that.
-Ragnarok MKII and MKIII
I know that all of the UIT guys are going to protest voiciferously, but I maintain that If the UIT is a civilian nation, their citizens shouldn't have access to military ships at their home sectors.
Make 'em go to Serco or Itani space to purchase that stuff.

And of course, pay higher prices for said combat ships.
Rather than taking away these ships, UIT could be balanced against Serco and Itani nations by having higher license requirements for the same ships. Also, it would make sense to have higher license requirements for members of other nations than for members of your own nation.
Also, there's no such thing as being a 'civilian nation' with the Serco on your border...

There sure is! That's the only thing keeping the UIT safe! They don't challenge anyone, but they provide a service, and they provide it well. They're more useful with their independence than conquered, so they're safe.

The majority of the UIT participating in CTC have chosen sides and it is apparently Itani. If you check the CTC page, you'll see that the evidence bears out this supposition.

Why is UIT a trading nation? Union of independent territories... not some trading nation. It's (according to the background story) made of up spacefaring people who need to trade to survive. They don't have any planets to get the resources they need, thus they had to trade to survive. I'd say that corporate conflicts have caused them to be pro-active in combat based production. They are also able to protect their borders against Serco and Itani, so that would mean that they are a force to recon with, not just allowing incursions. If Serco are as militaristic as they claim in the background story, they would have invaded UIT when they noticed a way to attack Itani from UIT's territory instead of trying to strike a deal with them.
According to the backstory, UIT occasionaly fights amongst itself; in addition they had to protect themselves from the arrogant Serco who didn't attack only becuase they didn't want a 2 front war apparently. I mean, the Serco DID chase what would become UIT from the planet afterall. However, I do think UIT shouldn't get top of the line fighters right off the bat; maybe at higher licensing levels then the other two.
Err.. in theory that might be true... however UIT's goal has been to gain technology through trading. They know/have had most of the serco tech even after they left the planet. They have been improving their space tech as much as itani has, just not as err.. different than the standard space tech (no force shields, mind control on the ship, ect.).
Realistically... I don't think fighting drones in outdated/smaller ships helps at all. Took me long enough to get a vulture/wraith.. and i could only really kill stuff that was easy to kill before they got to me (collectors who were scanning). Yes, I'm sure you can find ways to kill anything in a bus, it's just much harder... for people who just started playing the game, they may choose the neutral side just for that reason, safety.
