MASSES:Missiles, ammo, and balance

I just wanted to make 2 suggestions,

the first, is that missiles and other items with ammo, have masses which depend on the amount of ammo left, this would create interesting situations for some players (flarers) where they could choose to run less ammo, and use their favorite weapons, without being too heavy for PvP. It also seems realistic, as I would imagine that in most cases, missiles and rockets weigh much more than the launcher itself.

This brings me to my second issue, which has to do with general balance issues in the game. Right now, all the PvPers are using Neutron mk III's, and its boring. But its not JUST a problem with the NeutIII being an obscenely fast, powerful, AND light weapon (I.e. broken), it also has to do with the way the other major weapon groups have been nerfed. Flares are too heavy, as are gausses and to some extent rails (though I think there we're still in a n00bish weapon culture). I would like to say, however, that the drop in the mass of the Gravs was necessary, now they are in fact interesting (if not for the whole Neut III's making every other beam wep worthless, secret weapons are fun, but they generally end wars, rather than start them)

In the absence of accessory type items (which I would like to see), the only thing that defines a pilot is his/her style of fighting. And it limits the RPGness of the game when these weapons are not balanced to the point where people can experiment.

Give a place to be individuals.

I personally would love to see some defensive anti-missile systems. Maybe they exist and I just haven't found them yet (and I'm sure don't have the licenses for). In terms of weapon balance I think of the armor types in mechwarrior games, with reflective armor that is better against energy weapons, but weak against missiles, and another armor type that is better against missles but weak against energy weapons. It would add nicely to the rock-paper-scissors aspect of balance.

In the end though, it should come down to skill, that's why weapons should be balanced.

Seriously though the NeutIII's are very powerful, in terms of dmg/sec. But dmg/sec only applies if you actually land every shot, which needless to say can be hard. So if you doubled up a gauss or grav, you would do much more damage per shot. So some people can use the continuous stream-o-death (those with impeccable aim) and some people can shoot huge blobs-o-death and still be effective.

Before I realized it was too fat for PvP, my favorite configuration was a quad-gauss hornet.

while this should be moved to suggestions I personally suggest looking at that forum for a bit before posting. Your ideas are valued of course, but many of them have been suggested several times before. An addition to an already exhisting thread is better then a whole new thread for most things. When new threads are need please put them in the right forum.

Now that I reread my post though, I would like to say, that while I'm SURE the first idea has been suggested. It can't hurt to have it repeated for those who don't have time to keep up to date with ALL the forum info.

Likewise, the second "idea" was really my personal opinion, which can be added along with all the other votes that the game needs balancing.
