More/ Different Licenses
I think there should be a larger variety of licenses. Maybe a navigational license that would allow you to plot jumps better or have access to faster engines, or a sensors license which would give access to better sensors or even stealth, or an exploration one which might be linked to the "Prospecting for Minerals" mission that could eventually lead to the discovery of new systems or different wormhole routes. I think this would add much more variety and depth to the game and would allow players to become much more customized
I think it would lead to unnecessary bloat and make the game's balance even harder to control and keep track of.
I agree with Weag654 but also with genka.... I say we have an exploration license. That would effect special weaps/engines/maybe devices (if we get devices). One more license wouldn't make it hard to balance.

I think the current "licenses" are fine, and they don't need to be expanded. But some extra "qualifications" or "specializations" might be nice. Add-on achievements that let you do/buy specific things. Sort of like medals/commendations that have actual benefit other than bragging rights.
Maybe things that we already have could be like this, like getting Admire status with TPG, etc. That could be represented more formally, like "Honorary TPG Member" in the accomplishments.
Let's keep the actual license stuff very minimal though.

Heh accualy i agree. after playing the game on the trial.. in which i might sign up to further the experience and get a grasp of the better parts.. there are a hand full of elements that are lacking and almost essential. Such as just that. more Advanced scanners.. or stealth devices (signature's based on thrust/energy/weapons fire would have to be added of cource) Better engines.. some only fitable to fighter craft perhaps and some for transports..
I was stumped when I saw cargo ships that could out run a "fighter" class vessle even with a full payload. I understand "cargo runners" but they should be the ones with the Small loads in order to acheive the higher speeds.. and the slow ones with more room. because of smaller engines..O_o..
Another thing about the sensors. From what i understand theres no difference in how far a small ship can see compaired to how far a Capital ship can see.. which just doesnt seem right to me at all.. Slower less manuverable ships should be able to detect ships at a longer range so it can get set to take on something that might just run circles around it.. Which would make stealth items on smaller ships more valuable as it would buy them a bit more distance into that larger sensor range..
And taking Cargo.. Just one sujestion. make it easier to target and locate in a system.. Sometimes i was fighting 4-6 bots at a time or more within a short period of time.. and some of the battles put the cargo out of sensor range.. Spotting it all visualy was no easy task and i didnt find alot of it in time. I saw another thread about targeting. And i agree. it needs a little fine tuneing..
I could go on about the short comings of the game from my view. but there mostly minor and cosmetic (in feal/control)
Otherwise its nicely done.. An aspect i enjoyed alot was accualy flying into the station to dock!!!. Wasnt as elaborate as i would of hoped but its better than not having it at all :)!
I have more sujestions but i cant recall them all right now.. ^_^ Was definatly fun! BBS

I don't think we necessarily need more licenses, but more gadgets would be cool. Maybe you'd have to have standing with certain nations/companies/factoins to get access to some of them. Here's some ideas, some of which have been suggested already.
Proximity Alarm - Apparently people were asking for this in the Beta too.
Gravimetric Sensors - Shows radar blips sized proportionately to the mass of the object (EV had this)
FMS: Footprint Magnification System - With different sized blips, could make a group of fighters look like a fleet of destroyers or cargo transports (tips to Andromeda). You could likewise have a footprint shrinking system.
ECM - Electronic Counter-MeasuresScanner/sensor jammers for varying ranges.
ECCM:Xm - Electronic Counter-Counter-Measures, defeats variable Xm range of ECM.
Long Range Sensors - Extends sensor range, but does not penetrate ECM.
Identity Masking - An in-game software trick that makes your ship show up as a non-hostile until you open fire (military only probably).
I'm sure there's more derivations of these, keep 'em coming.

And in Alpha as well.
And the rest of that stuff too.

ECM = stealth
ECCM = cant have one without the other ^_~
Ahh counter measures. Didnt get far enough into it to realize there weren't any.. O_o didnt even get a chance to fire the new missles i aquired .. Jumped to a mission and got creamed, 10 seconds after i exited my jump... well not exactly .. i was getting close to creamed then BLAM.. 8 hours was up.. O_O
