My suggestions...
1) A way to sell unloaded cargo on the cargo tab. Currently it is only possible to sell loaded cargo, so I have to either load the cargo (likely after unloading something else to make room), or switch to the Sell tab.
2) Have the option to enter how many units of cargo you want to load/unload. If I have a full cargo of one item and take a cargo mission w/ new items, in order to load the mission items I have to unload *everything*, then load the mission items, then reload as much as I can of the items I had to start with. I know this and my first suggestion are not big issues, but for some reason they really irk me.
3) I know this gets beaten to death, but I really want to see more custimizable ships. Make more slots on the Ships tab; the main one I'd like to see would be an engine slot to add engine customizations. Choose going faster; jumping shorter distance from stuff; or more efficient turbo uses less battery, etc - but you can only have 1 engine mod per ship. Another good slot would be a sheild slot. Another to add more cargo space (also adds a lot of mass!). And have some ships with 'convertable' slots, that for X amount of money I can convert from a L weapon slot to a shield slot or a more cargo space slot. This is one of the biggest things that would really add to the coolness of the game, IMO.
4) Be able to name ships, especially the capital ships when they become available. Hopefully there won't be too many Millenium Falcons ;). Possibly have a 'Ship Name' registry maintained by the various governments, and with the differently named ships registered as belonging to certain owner(s), and have the faction standings tied to the ship name(s) belonging to a player, as well as the players name. Then there could be a ship mod that allowed you 'forge' your ships name - as long as you have the same ship type, don't dock, and don't attack (which would trigger a deeper scan), you would look like you were someone else. Thus someone with very bad standing with a certain faction could avoid hostiles, to a certain extent. But even if nothing else, I would like to be able to name my ships, just for its own sake. The rest of the stuff that could be done with names would just be other cool things. So maybe I should have made that a seperate suggestion...
5) Different currencies for the different nations; either completely seperate (you would have to take missions from that nation in order to get started with money there, even if you were filthy rich in your home nation), or with fixed exchange rates (Serco/Itani money worth half as much in the other nation; UIT takes either at 75% face value, and UIT is accepted at 75% in either Serco or Itani), or (ideally, IMO) with a dynamic exchange rate, based off of stuff like average cost of items in all stations in the nation (so if on average luxury goods cost 1000 credits everywhere they are available in UIT space, and cost an average of 1250 in Itani or Serco space, UIT credits would be worth 25% more than Itani or Serco credits), and/or average faction standing of players in the different nations (so if the average of UIT players standings with Itani was 600, and with Serco was 400, UIT credits would be worth more in Itani space than in Serco), and possible other factors as well.
6) Have NPC's hanging out in Bars in stations, giving 'unofficial' missions. Like a Serco operative in an Itani station could ask you to deliver an encrypted data pad back to a certain Serco station. This would give your Serco standing a big boost, but also hurt your Itani standing - if you took it to the Serco station; you should also have the option to take it to an Itani Military Official (who would be hanging out in bars in Itani barracks). And of course there'd be good old passenger missions - a stranded UIT trader had his ship blown up in your nations space, and needs you to take him back to his home station. Lots of other possibilities here.
