ELITE suggestions part 1. Market prices and quantity
When I enter sector with stations, I should be able to bring up a terminal with station market pricelist for all items it has for sale/willing to buy. Station broadcasts this information all the time and prices update as people shop in station. If I see that station has certain goods in abundance, I don't have to stop here, i'll move on.
Also, minor adjustment to purchases:
I believe it's necessary to display stocks of items that station has, every commodity including ammo, weapons, cargo, batteries and !SHIPS! must be limited. Stocks can regenerate with some believable story behind it, maybe NPC traders bring in all the stuff in every so often. But I don't enjoy being able to go to this station and KNOW FOR SURE that I'll be able to get a full ship of goodies no matter what. It would make trading and buying/selling more interesting.
Of course prices should go up when stock is running out.

Yes a supply/demand driven economy would be excellent. Spellcast had a good suggestion along this line a few weeks back as well.
There should be known formulas like:
32 Ferric Ore + 10 Cybernetic Components +10 (ETC ETC)= 1 Vulture
if a bunch of the required stuff was sold so there was 100 vults then the price of vults would go down. If there was only 2 vults left the price would be higher. NPC traders could constantly be moving stuff to certain stations (Capitals and such) So if I kill a Serco Convoy it will result in a Serco station having less of something.
Trading would become 100x better then it is now.

i agree with spellcast, however ELITE suggestion at hand deals with getting cargo prices without entering station.

Afaik its more:
foopiece + barpiece = thirdpiece
thirdpiece + Balancer = fourthpiece
fourthpiece + Defense System + Station with Arms unit = vulture
That kind of layout.
Check the prices on the ships when / if you completely ruing a traderoute involving more advanced items.. .:-)
