Repairing Costs
I doubt that most people will want to change this, but here is a suggestion for how to make reputation count some more.
If you are part of a faction or the faction really really likes you, repairs at a station are free.
If you are neutral with a faction, then in their station, it costs some reasonable amount of money to repair your ship.
If you are enemies with them, then it costs a lot of money, or they won't even repair your ship.
This would make living out in the neutral/enemy territories to harass them harder.

agree
good idea. I hadn't thought of that, but faction standings should definitely affect the cost. It should affect everything so it doesn't feel like just a number placarded on your head.
wow, great idea!
i second that. :)
bump for devs
I think that having the cost be free at any station with regard over +300 is a good idea, but that anything between that and -150(or whatever the boundary between neutral and dislike is) should charge a reasonable fee(maybe a few hundred credits for a full repair), and that anyone that actively dislikes you should charge quite a lot for repairs, with the stations that really don't want you around refusing to repair you at all.
Sounds reasonable but then it will need an extra box on the station interface to show the cost of the repairs.
Or can Ray just rename the "repair" button that shows how many hull points you need to repair your ship?

I don't think free repairs makes sence... it'd sorta be like the guys at the local garage replacing your transmission for free just becuase they liked ya. But a reduced cost makes a great amount of sence.
Aren't repairs free as it is now? I mean that number pops up but you don't actually lose credits.
Sarahanne, repairs used to cose money, at the moment it does tell you how much they are (0c). The only additional work would be making it like buying ammo such that you can repair to 100% with 1 click.
I don't think any repairs should be free (except repairs on the free bus) though just like everything else that costs money it should be cheaper if a faction likes you.

Well... say if the Serco Government finally entrusts you with a Serco Skycommand Prometheus type X or whatever, don't you think they'd also repair it for free if they like you that much?
if you're doing a combat mission with a faction or corporation you ought to get repairs for free or close to it. Otherwise this makes botting far too expensive.
Instead of fixed costs, the repairs need to change per ship.

Repairing is still less expensive than buying a new ship. In admired areas repairing costs won't be noticed when doing botting missions because they give you bonus credits. While in dislike areas it will cost you much more, possibly as much as buying the new ship, to repair, but you can't buy the new ship because that station will either not offer it, or offer it at a jacked up price.
This would also remove the problem of repairing an EC-88. When repair costed money, it took money to repair it. (EC-88 is a free ship)

Which ship cost would it use? The one at the station you're at? The price you bought your ship for? What if you bought it and increased your faction and the overall price of the ship went down?
It would use the current price of the ship at your current station.
and you could get only limited repairs (up to 50%) if ship cannot be purchased here.
