"Chat fading" but not when changing tabs
This is mostly an issue when you change back and forth with the Missions tab, it leaves a big splatch of green onscreen, which is information you just read, but that appears in the middle of the screen.
I love the way that info in the "other" tab shows and fades onscreen, however, can it be disabled that it shows when you change tabs as well? In that case its only redundant, information you have already seen, that appears in a strange place.

Good idea.
I found that kinda annoying myself spider. There is no reason to echo the other chat tab when switching tabs, since the one being echo'd is the one that was just onscreen.

I'd personally like to have an option to leave both tabs permanently visible.
Would be perfect for keeping track of mission progress without constant tab switching. The lost visibility isn't that big of a deal during trade and most combat missions.
EDIT: But then bot kills and game messages should not be displayed in this tab. They could maybe go back into the main chat, yet another tab or directly into the hud.

agreed, mr_spuck ....
some more of the chat-spam could also be moved to transient text overlays, too ....and wouldn't it be cool if our binds could echo stuff in overlays???
(overlays="press activate to continue on your plotted course" -type text)

I for one don't find the chat fading on the tab transition annoying. It's not necessarily useful all the time, but it doesn't get in the way too much (for me). I do like the alternate tab fading though, after the tab switch.
I hope there will be a setting that determines fade speed. When a 2+ line message comes in from the other tab, the fade is much too quick to read it.
And I also think it would be incredibly useful to have the ability to send or transfer certain messages to the overlay text.

I agree with thginkrej. I don't think the chat fading when switching tabs is overbearing, and sometimes it comes in handy.
I don't know if it's just on my computer, but if you scroll up the message (or mission) log, and the past text is in the red box, when you switch tabs, the text fades out, but the red box doesn't.
I think when scrolling up the posted messages, the red background should be changed, it kills the eyes.
